Yes, I happened to be looking at map last night and there it was in all its horror. Located in Michigan on the western side of the upper penisula (no doubt surrounded by abandoned copper mines) lies the town: Felch. I kid you not. (It’s just a little ways from Felch Mountain.) I _dare_ the Dopers to find a town with a worse name. ---

There’s plenty o’ threads about this. I’m too lazy to go search for them, but it’s been done before. Interestingly enough, Felch isn’t too far from Gay, MI, home of the famous Gay Bar. ---

Speaking of Hell, Michigan… Last Sunday’s real estate section had a bunch of photos of homes for sale (as per usual). They usually have a grabby 2-4 word heading above the photo, and some fine print below the photos giving the particulars. One of the ones that grabbed me was “WATERFRONT IN HELL.” I figured if Jay Leno was still doing his funny headlines thing, this would be a great one to send in. ---

You know, I used to live in Conway, Arkansas - about five miles from **Toad Suck**. It’s amazing how you can get used to a name like that. After a couple of years, it was just another name. ---

This one doesn’t really compare, but on I57 going south from Chicago, there is an exit for a town called Ashkum. My ex BF always used to say, “Ashkum, ashkum what?” He thought it was funny. Another ex was from Farmer City, IL. If that isn’t the biggest oxymoron ever, I don’t know what is. ---

I guess this is a little off topic but, I live about 79 miles north east of Felch! (I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing…) The U.P. is grand isn’t it? 🙂 Not only does Michigan have Hell, we also have Paradise. Hell is in the Lower Peninsula and Paradise is in the U.P. I’ve been to Paradise and now I want to go to Hell. I’ve also probably been to Gay, MI ( but,I haven’t been up to the Keweenaw area in a while so even if I was there, I don’t remember.) Just wondering, I am the only person here from the Upper Peninsula? ---
