I bet Merrick Garland will join SCOTUS

I am not gonna bet that Trump will suddenly become Statesmanlike.

Hold on, give me 10000-1 odds?

It would be nice if he nominated Merrick Garland, but it would also made it (more) obvious that the previous refusal to consider his nomination was nothing more than partisanship.

He already published the list he was going to pick from. It’s not a mystery.

(post shortened)

“Partisan healing”? There can be no partisan healing. This is the future. Get used to it. The deeply-embarrassed-by-Hillary’s-loss Democrats have no intention of ever cutting the Trump administration any slack. Not now - not ever. Even if Garland is nominated and selected. That will not make the Democrat Party healthier, happier, or less bitter from all their sour grapes.

FYI - Garland is out. Done deal.

Many Democrat Congressmen recently grandstanded from the inauguration sidelines saying Look at me! I’m still relevant! I’m not going to the inauguration! I’m sure their constituents are thrilled, but it appears that the Trump administration is moving forward with, or without, those party-poopers.

“Just because your side nominated a moderate, don’t expect us to waste time with that compromise bullshit.”

nm, read something wrong

Got it, thanks. I must also admit to some regret that I won.

Impossible. So after blocking Garland under Obama for a year, the Republicans have control of Congress and the presidency…and the SCOTUS nominee is…Garland? It would make utter fools of the GOP, and immense backlash from red voters if the GOP actually confirmed him after having blocked him for nothing.

No way Trump nominates Garland, no way the GOP accepts Garland even if he did.

Well, I agree it wont happen. But note that the GOP had no real issues with Garland, it was Obama they had issues with. They didnt give any reason for not liking Garland other than he was a lame duck appointment.

Only if you consider the lame duck period to be four years long. They came out in opposition to considering *any *Obama appointee to the court, no matter who, even before the nomination, remember? No vote, of course, even in committee, because that would risk losing.

And now the spot will be filled by an appointee who wasn’t even the people’s choice as President.

Since Trump lost the popular vote, it would inappropriate for him to make any Supreme Court appointments. I’m sure everyone would agree that the nation should wait for a president whose election reflects the will of the people.
