(1) Quick turn-around time. We can often you get you the same model within 48 hours. So there’s a lot less worry.

I can go into any store and buy any new phone in about 15 minutes, unless it’s the latest iPhone within a week or two after the release. I don’t see waiting 48 hours for an insurance company to ship me a new one is an advantage.

(2) A lot of people really, really love their high-end phones. And I’ve seen iPhones go for more than 1500 dollars. Patching over that hole in your life and/or wallet can be very, very costly. Even more reasonably-priced models may be quite expensive for the average person’s pocketbook, and not something you want to pay out.

What some dipshit pays on eBay to be the first guy on his block with the new iPhone is irrelevant. The retail price is $600-$800.

(3) Obviously, peace of mind is a hard concept to weight, but people can and do pay for it.

People spend money stupidly on all kinds of things. That doesn’t mean it isn’t stupid.

(4) Some customer break a lot of phones. My own brother broke five before we finally got him a mil-spec ruggedized phone. And that one cost a lot, now that I think about it.

If everyone were like that person, you’d be out of business. The only reason your company did not dump him as a customer was that they make such obscene profits off everyone else.

(5) Insurance can often get you a phone with the features you want, whereas you don’t get that kind of service in store. You basically can’t find some features anymore.

This is nonsensical.

My sister buys their phones from Best Buy and gets their warranty. I realize that for most people, it’s the same kind of ripoff, but they’ve replaced 6 or 7 Iphones for her husband in the last few years, without a quibble.

Some of that may depend on the store, though, from what I’ve heard.
