I noticed that article mentioned that entries from other nations are encouraged and will be accepted. What’s the matter? Isn’t Iran the hotspot comedy den of the Middle East? Jesus can’t eat M & M’s? Is there any candy that is solely Christian? Or Jewish, come to that (excepting Hannukah gelt)? are they not kosher or something? ---

This is actually an excellent development, IMO. Once the cartoons about the holocaust are distributed, then radical Jewish activists can go on a stone throwing, burning, kidnapping and rioting rampage throughout Islamic lands to indicate their disapproval, just as we’ve seen the Muslims do over the last few days. Make sure that the public property of several Islamic countries which had nothing to do with the cartoons is destroyed, and leaders of those places are threatened and/or villified despite their non-involvement. ---

To me, the most hilarious part of this story is the statement by the religious leader of Iran: “Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Tuesday that publication of the caricatures was an Israeli conspiracy motivated by anger over the victory of the militant Hamas group in last mont’s Palestinian elections.” ([http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-5601729,00.html](http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-5601729,00.html)) I’m not sure if this guy thinks that Israel arranged for these cartoons to be published, then produced the Hamas victory several months later for some nefarious purpose of their own, or if he’s just so friggin’ ignorant that before and after are confusing concepts to him. Or, just maybe, lying incendiary statements are much more inflamatory and useful to him than any approximation of the truth. I’d guess the last is closest to reality. ---

Which doesn’t make it easier to understand, it’s just, well, superweird I guess. One of our local newspapers went ahead and printed one of the cartoons, and I really am having difficulty seeing what the fuss is about. Firstly, its fucking funny, to me, anyway. It shows this dude in a turban standing on a cloud saying to other dudes with exploded backpacks, “Stop, stop, we ran out of virgins.” Secondly, nowhere does it say it is Muhammad. It looks to me it could be any one of hundreds of Ayatollahs. ---

As you said the image of the Prophet shouldn’t be used but the one that’s really pissing them off is the one of Muhammad with a bomb in his turbin. ---

Ever since those embassy bombings years ago, the attack on the USS Cole, the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon, etc., some spokesman always shows up in a news broadcast to declare: But Islam is the religion of peace. Perhaps this has the same validity as Antony’s “praise” of a certan Roman assassin by declaring: “But Brutus is an _honorable_ man.” ---

Would you say Christianity is a religion of peace? It’s not too hard to show Christians killing and maiming in the name of their religion and national identity. Yes I know it’s probably not to the same level but it exists. Islam is a religion of peace the same way Christianity and Judaism is. That doesn’t stop fanatics subverting the message to what ever they want. BTW I’m an atheist who wises they all would just fuck off and keep their religious shit to themselves and their gods. ---
