This is driving me nuts. I can usually come up with obscure songs but this one is just not coming to me. I don’t even know an entire, complete line in the song. But, here goes… early to mid 70’s (I think)…the gist of the song is there is some old witch/hag/ crone who lives in the woods. Everyone is scared of her. Then the town is hit with some kind of plague/disaster. The “witch” finds a way to save the town. The town sends in some men (The line here might be—“Let’s thank old Hattie(??) for saving our town…”) but the men end up dead, with a warning… “Don’t come looking again.” That last line is the only one I am sure of. I tried Google but didn’t get anything… The song is not really a “singing” song…it’s mostly spoken. Does this ring any bells? Anyone? Anyone? ---

Actually, PetW, that link is a bit off…the song lyrics that are displayed are to a song called “Wildwood Weed”…but I’m glad you posted the link anyway. I had completely forgotten about the weed song! Looks like I’m going to be looking for Jim Stafford tapes. (Memories light the corners of my mind…)
