I Can See Clearly Now the LASIK's Done!

That may well be true… the price difference, though, was something on the order of $150, IIRC, and I’m willing to part with that much even if for no other reason than to make the Doctor slicing my wife’s eyes to ribbons just a touch happier and less likely to throw her corneas on the floor. :stuck_out_tongue:

I also seem to recall that with the custom wavefront they could treat a larger area, decreasing the odds that she’d have halos and starbursts at night (though he did say that shouldn’t be an issue with my wife, as she has rather dark irises, or, or something… ).

Sounds like Intralase, and it was none of the things you mentioned. I was told that the precision of the laser made it heal faster, not slower. And I was seeing 20/20 on the second day. And I had very little discomfort at any point. Just dryness.

I’ve been thinking about this more and more lately. I’d love to be able to forego my glasses, even if only part time, after wearing them for 35 years. But, being a photographer I’m very picky about my eyes and so get very nervous about the possible side effects.

I’m heavily nearsighted and have a moderate amount of astigmatism. Back in the day of hard contacts ( ) I was told they were all I could wear because the astigmatism would cause soft lenses to ripple and not fit well. I wore hard lenses for about 6 months before I started having problems with them and have never worn any contacts since.

I guess the bottom line is I’m concerned that I wouldn’t be able to focus as sharply apres Lasik as I can with glasses.

Best thing to do is find a reputable doctor and have him evaluate you.
