What you’re probably seeing is a taillight with a smashed outer casing. The actual lightbulb isn’t red, just the reflector that goes over it.

I’ve also seen it when people try to do their own electrical repairs.

And as to the blinker fluid, I’ve always preferred to use the terms muffler bearings and clutch belt on my car-ignorant friends. Makes me giggle a little, anyway.

I worked in an auto parts store for a few summers, the running “prank” there was to call around to the other parts stores and ask for a radiator for our 1975 VW Beetle. Sometimes they would take 20 minutes looking for it in their computer systems. One guy actually told us he had one in stock.
