I remember way back in the deep recesses of 2000-something I was able to view the folders and song files on my ipod via Windows explorer. It wasn’t pretty but I could do it. Folders were 0-49 and the songs seemed randomly assigned to the folders. Anyway I’m trying to do it again with my 5th generation 80gb in disc mode and Windows 7 and can view folders but no files except pictures that I loaded. There’s not even an inidcation of where the files are. Is being able to access music folders and files impossible now? I can’t even remember if it was my old mini or the one I have now that I was able to view the files with.

Make sure “show hidden files and folders” is enabled. It’s in Tools-\>Folder Options from any Explorer window.
