I Can't takes no more! (Internet TV vs. Cable)

SlingTV is $20 a month and carries ESPN and AMC plus a bunch of other channels like IFC live. They have a deal with EPIX (all EPIX - 2, 3 and Drive-In) as an add-on for $5 extra.

With them both being so cheap compared to cable, why assume you’ll only pick one? You’re dropping phone service, too, so surely it amounts to over $20 worth of savings from what you used to pay before the rate hike. Heck, I’d bet you’d come out ahead with Hulu Plus, Netflix, and SlingTV, even if you have to get a Roku for the latter. (Heck, they are running a deal right now where, if you prepay for three months, you can get a free Amazon Fire stick or Roku 3 stick.)

Heck, I’d want the extra hardware, since the Wii is not HD and can’t take advantage of alternative sources for Internet TV.

I’ve subscribed for the past few seasons and have only had to deal with the occasional blackout, but then again, I’m not in the market where my team is, so it may be more of an issue if you’re local to what you want to watch. There are ways of tricking it though, like using a VPN to hide your location.

Thanks, Anamorphic. I guess I don’t really have “a team” but just like hockey. So I think I will subscribe next season. Who’s your team?

The Capitals, and I live in Los Angeles, so it’s a great way to still see all their games. I’ll use Gamecenter to watch an occasional other interesting looking matchup from time to time as well. If you’re a hockey fan, I think it’s well worth it.

FWIW, just saw an article yesterday saying HBO will finally offer online streaming as an a la carte service for $15 per month, to launch in April. If you’re interested in that sort of thing! Article is here.
