What scares me is that I can read this, with virtually no problem. I scanned right through it like I was reading REAL WORDS. _sigh_

_Actually, the original purpose of leetspeak was to prevent people who don’t know leetspeak from finding warez (illegal copies of software) and / or porn._

Assuming that “pron” = porn, that is.

I’d say I need a life, but I have one. I found it in a geocache and traded two AA batteries for it. 😃

Since this forum has degenerated, I would like to announce to you all my new, snarky attempt to co-opt leet-culture and get everyone in it to make fun of themselves without even noticing.  
There’s a lot of “omglol!!!1111!!!” out there, you know.

And some wags are even doing “omglol!!!one!!!eleven!!!”  
This, I find funny, but it’s a leet-thing now to use “one” and “eleven” to indicate progressive degrees of excitement.  
I would like to propose an absurd extension of this based on my junior-high experiences:

In junior high, my locker combination was 1-11-25. This is a verifiable fact.  
I have begun, and would like to see others begin using “twenty-five” in their rows of exclamation points when making fun of the leetspeakers. If we get it to catch on, you can all say you heard it here first.  
**Example:**

_leetspeaker:_ omfg ur teh suxx0rs u dont think megan morrone is teh h0t!!!one!!!111!!!

_Doper:_ I guess I am!!!twenty-five!!!  
Or something like that. It can also be used to indicate vehement agreement.

**Example:**  
_Person 1:_ Wow, that Charlize Theron is wicked hot.

\*Doper: \* Twenty-five.

Get on board now.

It would seem that some clarification is in order re: my OP. The part where I am annoyed at that particular 'motie is true. While it is the case that I have been known to use a smilie or two in my time, I do not use them as a signature. So, you see, while the OP may have been over the top and hyperbolic it is a legitimate rant (or at least a peeve of mine).

It is also true that in some of the posts that followed I attempted to use humor. I deeply regret that this seems to have confused some of you. Naturally, I am not seriously advocating that using that particular emoticon be grounds for immediate banning. It may also come as a surprise that I didn’t really eat dead maggots that were pissed on by grouchy old men. It may also surprise you to know that I did not ever live in a place where one could walk there uphill both ways.

Again, I deeply regret the confusion that this has caused some of our more literal minded posters. :rolleyes: \<--------------------------- See, I used a smilie! Go me!

Damn! I have missed the threads where lol caused a banning. That really puts things in a whole new light.

On a serious note, for the most part it is not hard to spot a flirt thread and then ignor in. Lame emoticons, on the other hand, have a way of creeping in to just any thread. You never know when one will strike.

I, for one, am deeply disappointed to find that you have employed humor, sarcasm, hyperbole, and smilies in the Pit. I believe you should be immediately banned.

No it’s the exact same thing except when someone says LOL anyone can say “we don’t do that kind of lame AOL crap here” and if someone says how you doin, if you say “we don’t do that kind of lame AOL crap here” you’d just be completely incorrect because here, people don’t even know it’s lame. They think it’s funny.

**pokey** , Can you run that one past me again? I think I fell off at the corner.

If I, as an individual poster, decide that flirt threads are lame I am able to avoid them. This is not true with surprise emoticons.

On the other hand, I will concede that the “how you doin” posts can be a bit harder to dodge (although staying out of MPSIMS is a pretty good start). On the other, other hand if you are saying that you find fault with the very subculture of the SDMB itself in that the lame AOL crap draws ire but the lame flirting is tolerated, I would probably be inclined to agree with you (although I have probably been guilty of the later a time or two).

Also, BTW, how YOU doin? 😛 \<---------------------Ooops, I did it again.
