# I Do Believe I've Discovered a Glitch

In [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=8771609), I tried to make a post, but it wouldn’t show up. A post would be made, but there’d be **no** text. I figured out what caused it, but I don’t know if it’s glitch in vBulletin, or if it’s one of those temporary things.

Anyway, here’s what happened and what I did that seemed to correct the problem. I hit the “quote” button, then when I reworked the post (splitting it up so that I could post my comments in the appropriate places), instead of typing  
[/quote]  
at the end of the first quote tag, I screwed up and typed . For some reason _that_ prevented _anything_ from showing up.

Yeah, it’s a bug. It actually takes a combination of unclosed quote tags with a certain amount of text – short posts with messed up quote tags don’t show up as blank. ([Old ATMB thread on the issue.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=411777))
