Specifically, the term [Yoni](http://www.yoni.com/). Not griping at anyone specific here, but this term seems to be popping up around here of late (no pun, honest) and I have to say that it just strikes me as a very awkward, pretentious and somewhat silly way to refer to the vagina. Don’t get me wrong. I understand that there are cultures in the world that are into the “Yoni principal” and I respect that. However, this is not one of them. You could argue that the Patriarchal Penis culture disrespects and oppresses the womb, and that it could use some change. I would probably be with you there. However, when I hear (or read) members of this culture referring to “Yoni” I picture a group of upper middle class college freshmen, aglow from their feminine studies 101 class sitting around in a circle, passing a talking stick, eating bread made from 9,000 grains that were all harvested by lesbian separatists during their “blood moon”, sipping cinnamon-snap herbal tea, pillaging other cultures while they try to “ground” or “center” themselves. I don’t know. Perhaps my self-actualizing anima needs holistic healing. Perhaps I am functioning in a disease process of negative toxicity. ---

Most of the slang terms for vagina are pretty gross, in my opinion. And the ones that aren’t tend to be pretty stupid. At least the nicknames for penis are funny enough that you can laugh at them. ---

The slang terms may be gross, but that doesn’t mean “yoni” isn’t a stupid word. I’m with the OP: I don’t like it either. We already have plenty of words for genitalia–if you want to give them religious connotations, “holy vulva” sounds better, to my ears. ---
