If you need a pet adopted or you need it given up, you DO NOT charge a fee, GODAMMIT!

Gotta say, assuming that was a PM he received, Quasi’s right. Posting some sob story about trying to place a pet then asking for money is way out of bounds. It’s an abuse of the privilege of posting such a thread. Also a slap in the face to anyone considering helping out.

Yes, it’s a big deal. Pulling on your emotional strings in the thread, asking for a not-exorbitant-but-not-trivial fee for an animal already in need of shots etc. in the PM, then requesting a personal visit sounds like a scam. I’m not saying it is a scam, mind you: I am claiming that scammers often follow similar protocols.
Anybody agreeing to such a fee or even half is a potential mark. The personal visit permits arm-twisting, etc. Again, this is probably a case of poor judgment: the poster might innocently want to establish bona fides with a visit and fee. But a possible appearance of impropriety is a big deal.

I don’t know what happened – and as the person who approved **Time Like Tears** ’s original post, I’m definitely concerned if some kind of scam is being run – but ATMB isn’t the correct place to resolve it, so I’m closing this thread.
**Quasi** , I recommend that you ask this person for an explanation. If you think he or she is scamming members of the SDMB, please contact the administrators ( **Tuba Diva, Gfactor, Dex, fluiddruid** ) and ask them to look into it.
