Er…no a theory that’s been debunked has been discredited.
Gary Sick, the guy who promoted the theory was exposed as being a liar who used terrible sources and the people who exposed him weren’t right-wing fans of Reagan but The New Republic and The Village Voice.
What did Ronald Reagan do in 1968 to make the October Surprise theory plausible?
Based on your logic, the idea that JFK was the victim of a conspiracy theory was plausible simply because of the activities a few decades ago by Mr. Princip.
No, people didn’t realize how shitty the sourcing was until years later because everyone initially dismissed it because it was preposterous. Amongst other things, the Iranian government had no reason to want Reagan in the White House when they had Carter already who was embarrassingly easy to manipulate(and no I’m not suggesting he was useful idiot just that they had played him and his advisors like a guitar and had no reason to want to stop. Until the coming of George W. Bush they never had a better President for Iran).
People only started examining it nearly a decade later because of the claims of Ari Ben Menasche. The fact that the wikipedia article doesn’t even mention Menasche is proof of how incomplete it is.
Oh please, I nearly pissed myself laughing at this. Were you even aware of who this Banisadr was and how he was viewed as a “windbag’s windbag” by most Iranians before you read that shitty wikipedia piece.
He was one of Khomeinei’s top flunkies, was made the first President of Iran(which was basically a rubber stamp position with little actual power) pissed off the wrong people and wound up getting booted out of Iran.
Ten years later, desperate for cash, he wrote a book where he repeated the allegations but when pressed to provide evidence by The New York Times confessed he had “no personal knowledge” of any such meetings but came to believe it for reasons he couldn’t go into.
Translation, he was passing off rumors as evidence.
For anyone not familiar with Iranians, one of the things that should be remembered about us is that we’re the world’s greatest gossips and that’s true regardless of our religion, economic status, or political orientation.
Translation, the only thing you know about it is what you read in a shitty wikipedia article.
Wikipedia is a shitty source and even by the standards of wikipedia that was an at best incomplete article which nevertheless points out that two separate congressional committees, dominated by Democrats who would have loved to take down the Reagan administration said the October Surprise Theory was crap.
Hopefully for your sake you’ve never made fun of anyone who though Bill Clinton had Vince Foster murdered.
