You realize that all of those movies (except Hudson Hawk and Independance Day) have huge followings of both critics and fans right? ---

_The Cable Guy_ jumps to mind. I think critics were just ready to hate any Jim Carey film. _Batman Forever_ was another good movie that didn’t get a lot of critical praise. ---

Not universally, and some of them are put down a lot and not artsy enough for some. Titanic comes to mind. Won a lot of awards, critics are all over it, except for some that think of it as Cameron’s ego BJ and a special effects display without a real plot. The point is, I like watching these movies, they’re a blast visually and they entertain. I can see that cinema is an art form, but that doesn’t mean (to me anyway) that every film has to be Cinema. Racing Stripes - the zebra that wins the big race? Like that. I’ll stop what I’m doing to root for the zebra, because that’s fun. Maybe I should have put that on the list for perspective. ---

Constantine! Of course, we _were_ MSTing throughout the whole movie… I don’t think I’d have enjoyed it as much if we weren’t. But it was still good, and looked great. The first thing I thought when I saw the trailers for Narnia was “HEY! There’s Gabriel!” ---

Rio Bravo is considered by most critics to be one of the best westerns ever made. Toy Story is often cited as the best animated film ever made. Men in Black was widely praised by critics. Bambi is of course a Disney classic. Maybe you just have better taste than you thought you did! Just for yucks, I went to RottenTomatoes and looked up the critics tomatometer score for each one of them (over 50% is generally favorable): - Independence Day (64%) - The Fifth Element (68%) - Local Hero (100%) !! (Ebert: 4 stars) - Titanic (86%) - Toy Story (100%) !! - Men In Black (90%) - Bambi (85%) - Rio Bravo (100%) !! - Hudson Hawk (19%) - McClintock - White Christmas (82%) ---

_Not Another Teen Movie_ ([28%](http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/not_another_teen_movie/)) is one of my favorite movies of all-time. _10.5_ ([4.1 on IMDb](http://imdb.com/title/tt0364146/)) is another cult favorite of mine, though that one’s definitely for the so-bad-it’s-good factor. ---

“The Tenant” by Roman Polanski is a personal favorite; now it seems to have a cult fanbase, but the only contemporary review I could fine (Roger Ebert’s) indicates that everyone at the time hated it. ---

My ratings: - Independence Day – 7 of 10 - The Fifth Element – 8 - Local Hero – 10 - Titanic – 8 - Toy Story – 10 - Men In Black – 10 - Bambi – 3 (really one of Disney’s worst, sentimental and storyless) - White Christmas 2 – dull and hokey and completely unentertaining. Even Irving Berlin was just going through the motions. However, I do agree that **The Tenant** was a great film, and that **Daredevil** was better than most people thought (though it wasn’t just critics who hated it). ---

Like you, I enjoyed _DareDevil_ (more than either \*Spider-Man \*movie, actually) and watched it out of curiosity and I still have nightmares close to a year later. I also liked _The Punisher_ and the \*Blade \*trilogy. I’m a Marvel fanboy. ---
