This wasn’t a catfish – at least, Cathy wasn’t catfished. She’s been supposedly dating this guy for at least five years. I don’t see the length of the relationship as evidence that it wasn’t catfishing; Cathy might just be really gullible. Heck, her “previous” ex might even have been the same catfish using a different persona. Now, if Cathy claimed to have actually been spending time in person with George Glass during these five years rather than having a long-distance relationship where they communicated online/by phone then I’d say she’s almost certainly lying or delusional. Hello everyone, I’m the mutual friend Grumpy mentioned in her OP. I’ve known Cathy online for as long as Grumpy has; however, I have never actually met Cathy beyond speaking on the phone with her a number of yrs ago. This fake b/f thing has been going on for years but we all (there’s a number of us that met at one message board now defunct but we have maintained a friendship over the yrs which has now landed on FB) took it for granted ‘dude’ was real and its all good. I started having suspicions a good while ago because things just weren’t adding up with the aforementioned sounding exactly alike and ‘his’ unceasing as well as over the top Mr.Perfect routine just wasn’t ringing true. Its one thing to create a fake b/f for whatever reason but the level of drama and emotional manipulation that Cathy is now engaging in has reached the level of epic. This is not the woman we have known for yrs. The few of us that know the b/f is a fake have gone from very concerned about Cathy to downright angry at her for the ridiculous lies and outrageous behaviors which include her basically siccing a bunch of emotionally manipulated friends on someone who had the audacity to say 'wait a minute, something isn’t adding up here". We really have been taken aback by these developments. As Grumpy stated, Cathy is nice and can be quite fun but for myself, I don’t know if I can stay friends with someone who has basically lied to me for years and rather than just break up with her argyle lover she decided to engage in an obscene game of lying and emotional manipulation of her friends. ---

No, there is no way she has been catfished. This has been going on for years with innumerable posts about trips, dinner, shopping together made by both profiles back in forth to a large number of us. Hell ‘they’ have even posted back n forth to each other on facebook while they were supposedly in the same house! This has been an ongoing plan to deceive, I actually think it was Grumpy going up to visit for the 2nd time + Cathy took a trip where she met another woman from our online group in person; real people who had been fooled into thinking the b/f real were coming around yet this b/f was never around to meet is what made the need to get rid of ‘him’. In fact, Grumpy and I had a chat in January where we predicted the b/f was going to meet an untimely end. The ensuing level of drama, ridiculous lies, outrageous stories and forgery has been all Cathy’s doing. ---

The question I now have is whether our newest member **chachacha** is in fact **GrumpyBunny** in disguise? Or perhaps they’re both socks of the subject “Cathy” of this entire thread? That is to be pitied, from the information at the time. Now there’s more, and she’s a liability. I know - and from friends I know - that posting about real-life health issues can be an arse because some people think you’re making it up. They have good reason to, because of people like this woman. At the end of days of the XF messageboard a woman made lots of claims of cancer which were later disproven and another board member who really did have cancer got shit becase of that. And when you’re really ill you can often still type even if you can’t go out, and the internet becomes a really useful way to stay a person - not a cripple - who has opinions and watches TV shows and worked in the past, etc. I mean, I’m OK here because I’ve met a lot of people IRL and still do now and then, but I still get the sceptical posts and have had to ask another long-term board member to confirm that I’m real. People who pretend to be that way, or pretend to have dead partners or children, etc, need help, but not from us pretending to continue their charade. ---
