I hate whiners, but I must confess an internal whine building up: 99% of the new “Society Cafe” or “Culture Cafe” or whatever cappacino the new forum is called is completely uninteresting to me. I guess I’m just a clod, but the Iliad and Paul Klee and whatever other upity-ness does nothing for me. So what? So why don’t I just ignore it? Well, I like the other 1% a lot (I imagine Spinal Tap and Pulp Fiction and (eek) Eminem will end up there as well) plus I appreciate **Euty** ’s writings, and I suspect I’ll miss all of the above as I drive by from GD to IMHO. There’s my whine. Sorry there’s no dirty words for those of you that like that stuff. ---

So why not open up some threads there about Spinal Tap and Pulp Fiction and (eek) Eminem? I’m not big on “Modern Deconstructionism and How it Relates to The Illiad”, but I’d join a thread on how cool Sesame Street is. Jesus Christ on a Pogo Stick, you’re like the damned whiny bastards at work. Our company gave us more personal time, and immediately this asshole starts crowing about more sick time. Then they mention maybe getting optical insurance, and some dipshit starts crying about dental. Can’t anyone just say thanks and be grateful? I say, don’t read it then…it’s not like you are forced to walk through a smoking area in a restaurant to get to the non-smoking area only to ruin your appetite. That’s the beauty of message boards, if you don’t like a forum, you don’t have to visit. Ya big whiner, sheesh. ---

Well, I think you’re seeing the crowd rushing in to provide content. It’ll settle down somewhat, and I suspect the highbrow stuff won’t be so common. Then schlubs like us can feel more at home griping about how Maury Povich is overrelying on those “boot camp” schemes. I can only read so much about Helen Frankenthaler’s influence on the Chilean NeoBeat Performance Artists before I gotta go watch some MTV. ---

…I’d like to know if original or creative writing projects are acceptable material for CS. Might cut down on the drive-by wiseass-ery you get in those type of threads in MPSIMS. Maybe not. ---

Arts and entertainment? Talk about beating a dead horse.
