A little background: My husband and I were both raised Catholic though we don’t practice anymore. He went to 11 years of Catholic school and got the full indoctrination (including a very brief desire to be a priest at age 9) and I just got the moderate indoctrination. He’s been fascinated with the goings on regarding Pope JPII’s passing and the TV has been tuned almost non-stop to Pope-a-vision so , while I don’t share his fascination, I’ve been watching the proceedings too. In those pre-dawn hours this morning, right before the alarm went off, I dreamt that I had been elected Pope (the fact that I’m female didn’t seem to be a problem) In my dream it all seemed like a colossal joke to me. Why would they elect me? I’m a former catholic who’s fallen about as far as one can fall away from the church. (Satan’s Marshmallow, remember?) I was expected to perform certain duties and bless people and I did it all with a feeling of humorous detachment like I was really getting one over on the poor saps who elected me and didn’t realize that I’m not a believer anymore. And yet, I realized that I was expected to bless things and the like and I was going through the motions and trying to at least look like I was doing it “right”. The whole thing had an odd feeling of “how the heck did I get here and when will it be over”. In what kind of world does Satan’s Marshmallow get to be Pope? Only in my dreams. 🙂 ---

That’s what watching too much Popesequy will do to you – hell, I’m a Pagan who grew up Protestant, and I dreamt I was a Catholic last night too. I had written some kind of mass, and the priests were about to give it, but it was all about gay stuff and I knew they were going to freak. ---

My six year old discovers the Pope is dead. After I explain that the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church my daughter chimes in with “will they pick a new one.” I say yes. And my six year old Unitarian son pipes up from the back seat of the car “Maybe they’ll pick me!” ---

**velvetjones** , I watched the short-lived series Crusade, while it was on. Earth is under a quarantine because of a deadly plague. In one brief snippet there’s a news broadcast featuring a service in Vatican City, which the Pope is leading. You don’t see the Pope up close, only as a small figure in a procession, and you know it’s the Pope by the white vestments. Name of the Pope? Bernadette II!!! So maybe 265 years of history has finally brought a change in the mindset of the RCC.
