I feel so stupid. The whole thing happened in slow motion, complete with “No-o-o-o-o-o!” I grabbed it right away and dried it off, and turned the power off. I know you’re supposed to pull the battery on electronics that have gotten wet, but you can’t do that with a Kindle; it’s all one piece. So, I’ve buried it in rice, hoping it will rise again, perhaps on Sunday. ---

I take my phone in there with me all the time. I’m so paranoid about dropping it in the bowl, I have a little routine about putting it on the counter before dropping trou, lifting the lid only just prior to use, put the phone back onto the counter when done, and putting the lid down immediately upon standing. So the phone is always out of my hands (also removed from pocket - I’ve heard about things dropping from pockets, too) and on the counter when the bowl is uncovered. I also have a “lid down at all times” policy, which keeps the cats out, and eliminates any late-night no-lights male/female problems with the seat. I hope the rice fixes things right up. ☹ ---

You might want to try pointing a blow dryer at it for a few minutes. That worked for me once with a pager I dropped in a puddle. ---

Yeah, I always take it in there so I don’t have to read the shampoo bottles. Even when I’m just peeing, which fortunately was the case this time. I’m kind of paranoid about it too, but all has always been well until now. Every so often I’ll have an incredibly clumsy moment where I’ll be just calmly holding something and suddenly I’m juggling it in midair. It’s just a thing I do, no one knows why. Sometimes it’s a pencil, sometimes a glass of milk. Sometimes a Kindle. ☹ ---

I’m convinced that gravity gets disrupted in the air above a toilet bowl. I never freaking drop anything in the bathroom, unless I’m right next to the shitter. ---

The bad thing about this is that you might have to buy a new Kindle. The good thing is that you can recover your books. I like to read in the bathtub. I used to kill deadbooks that way on a regular basis until I finally figured out that I should put the book down before reaching for the towell. ---

If you Kindle won’t start, Amazon is reportedly very good about sending free replacements. So call them and see what they say. ---

If you have a safe parking spot, on the dash in the sun is a pretty dry environment. Worked somewhat on a couple of cells I had that got soaked. They never are really really the same. ---

Hallelujah, it is (tentatively) risen! I just took it out of the rice and it’s charging. Everything seems to be working ok. Like Spiderman says, everybody gets one. I’ll be more careful from now on. ---
