I think it is silly. I just can’t keep a straight face, and it turns me off, not on, but not because I find it distasteful. I just like to keep my lovemaking more serious. I have NO problems with it, and I love the bdsm visual sensibilities, but I just think it is silly when I have tried it. I was hoping there would be an option to express that. ---

It certainly didn’t come off as a joke- the psychological treatment line was a bit much, Curt. Especially in a thread like this, it’s already a sensitive topic for some people, ya know? Don’t shout fire in a crowded theater, and all that. Maybe if you just had included the last line only, but that first line of yours pretty much made it a negative comment. Put me down as never tried this stuff, don’t really have an opinion on the matter about it. I get the appeal, but i don’t know what i’d do in the situation. ---

I don’t know how to vote. I’ve enjoyed getting a few swats during the act, but I’m not into any drawn-out, ritualized, role-playing over the knee type spanking thingie…and especially not if the term “spanko” is used! ---

People run the whole gamut, from light, essentially painless “playing”, all the way up through “how much can I take” and beyond. And when sex follows the spanking, based both on my personal experience with a past partner and on anecdotal evidence from bottoms I’ve talked to online, the lingering pain from the spanking makes the pleasurable sensations of the sex feel that much more intense. There’s also a stress/emotion-release aspect. I’ve met a fair number of bottoms who say they find it very difficult, under normal circumstances, to let out pent-up emotions and stress, and that getting spanked to tears is a very effective way to trigger a release. In some relationships, there’s an important role-reversal aspect as well. In many spanking (and on up into other varieties of BDSM) relationships, it’s not unusual for the bottom/sub to be a “management”-type person with a ton of responsibility at work, while the Top/Dom has more of a “labor”, not-the-boss kind of job. Taking the “opposite” roles in the personal relationship becomes mutually beneficial on a psychological and emotional level: the “manager” who has to be constantly “in control” and “responsible for everything” at work gets to come home and be released from all that pressure; the “labor” person who has no say-so at work gets to come home and be “the boss”. ---
