Drastic, unnuanced cost cutting is the “slash and burn agriculture” of the financial world. Short term (for values of short) success, long term destruction and despair. I despair of the human condition that we keep believing and electing these sorts as a species. ---

The fact that there is an estimate of 13 billion dollars in soy waiting to be sold until the dollar reaches a more favorable rate is somehow a surprise to these free market geniuses, who expected the soy oligarchs to lose money just because of ideological sympathies… Idiots. ---

While I’m glad you’re ahead of the the trends, I’m just worrying (in general) about you and your family being able to ride this out. Since we’re still in the getting worse phase, with not a whole lot of seeing “before it starts to get better”. And you already pointed out that you personally are a lot more secure than most. So, from your (and what little international reporting we get) mentions, the insulated wealthy are preserving their assets, the poor are doing their best to hold on, the economy is steadily declining, and the government already did the slash and burn of “cost cutting” - which is only going to make things worse going forward. So what is the government _claiming_ is going to happen next? That magically things will get better? That the “they” is sabotaging them? Because, historically, soon they’ll need a scapegoat. Which is when things tend to get extra ugly. ---

They were expecting and/or touting a V-shaped recovery, in the second semester… Now they are talking about L shaped “recovery” and the need to give them some time… I worry about scapegoats too, Argentinians believe themselves above racism (and boy are we wrong about that) but it’s true that we don’t have (much of) a history of scapegoating racial minorities, a worrying (but far-off IMHO) possibility is a return of right-wing military authoritarianism to keep a lid on things before they explode. ---

I am frightened. “Vice President Trump?” And he didn’t wince an cover his eyes and correct himself. I believe Reagan was diagnosed as having Alzheimer’s for much of his last term. “Casperger, Nicauraga, Iran” I have no recollection. Yet that was not on video and he’d likely still look believable. Joe Biden has to. Absolute has to, step down in whatever graceful way he can. Nixon did it. Reagan should have. Sure, “Vice Fudking Preident Trump” will issue multiple racist and sexist statements about Harris yet dammit, she’s all we’ve got… Democracy is over if Trump is elected. ---
