# I fell eight or nine feet

Fortunately, the distance was horizontal.
I just got a new lawnmower. The SO wanted to hear it run, so I went and got a can of gas. I’m carrying the full can to the backyard. I tripped on the edge of the patio and almost caught myself on the chaise longue. A funny thing about those chairs, their backs fold. Continued forward, and almost caught my balance – except I still had a couple gallons of gas in my hands. I couldn’t get my feet, which are situated below two destroyed knees, under me. I knew I was going down, and it looked like it would be into the potted tomato plants. I tried to go over them, but my legs hit the only-weeks-old terra cotta pot and toppled it, breaking it to bits. I ended up off the other edge of the patio and into the grass.
I uncovered the tomato plants and put them into a broken piece of the pot. The gas can didn’t leak, and I uprighted it. Headed inside. Noticed I was dripping blood. :rolleyes: Nurse SO bandaged the larger one after I washed the wounds and put Neosporin on, but the largest bandage she had was too small. Oh, well. I gassed up the mower and it started on the first pull. The SO likes the self-propelling feature. Then I dug into the bathroom cupboard and found a rare large adhesive bandage.
I wish someone had seen the fall. It was spectacular. At least it felt like it, and the forensic evidence says so.

Well, which one was it? 8 feet or 9 feet IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
The story is so lacking in details, how do we even know it happened.
Jan 2000, only 50,000 posts. I smell a troll.
Time to go see if you’ve posted this on a bunch of other message boards.
[obligatory “I’m joking” in case a humorless mod doesn’t think I’m kidding]
And just to be serious, you have to be careful. Doesn’t take much. I fell about 8 inches and ended up in surgery to fix the cartilage I tore.

She didn’t find anything amusing about it. Of course, she didn’t see it. (I told her I wish she had, since it was an epic fall. She said she’s glad she didn’t.) With my bad knees and the nerve damage to one of me feet, she threatened to sic her PT (or was it OT?) colleague on me.

_Film_ cameras! And I’m usually _behind_ the camera! (The mania has nearly passed, BTW. Still want an XTR Prod, though. I think I’ll sell the LTR-7 and LTR-54 and put the money toward one.)
I probably would have taken down the Terra Cotta Warrior too.
The SO wants me to evict a ‘scrub rose’ from one of the plastic, fake terra cotta pots in the front yard and use that for tomatoes. I want to put one plant in each pot, so I’ll have to evict both roses. She says I should toss the roses down toward the creek; they’ll probably keep growing out of bloody mindedness.
