All right, I got some good gaming time in. Right now I’m in the Hive (city above the Mortuary) and I had been ignoring most of the townsfolk who don’t have names, figuring that I’d get to them later. I finally sauntered up to a Harlot and questioned her, and then Morte wanted some quality time with her. So I sprung for the fee. THAT was fun and educational for two of us. I don’t think that Harlot got much out of it, other than the jink.
Something I wasn’t able to look up: Are you limited in the number of tattoos you can get or do you have unlimited tattoo real estate on your body?
I got myself a + 2 Wisdom tattoo at Fell’s and my wisdom didn’t go from 19 to 21. I rested just to be sure. And still, it hasn’t increased. I paid the money and got it, but it’s not having any effect.
Never mind. I didn’t think a tattoo had to be equipped.
Re: Kobal2’s spoiler, my comment which is only spoilered because it references yours:
It doesn’t serve any purpose except to make you more Chaotic, but I like to use the figure to taunt Morte.
IIRC you can wear more than 1 (3?) tattoos but not all of them. Two other party members can wear them. I won’t name them for spoiler reasons, but you can get them both really early, like in the first zone.
Some tattoos are permanent while you wear them, others have limited uses. Stat gain tattoos like +CON do not affect leveling.
I bought a tattoo a couple of hours ago. It appeared in my inventory, and then I put it on one of my tattoo slots.
After about 20 tries through half a dozen version of the hard modron mazes, I’m finding quite difficult to find that helper. Any tips?
I believe it’s randomly generated, so keep looking. Map it out on paper, I think that’s what I did.
ETA: Searched, and this says “The doorway into the room will always be to the north, so that’s what we’ll be looking for this time around.” Spoilers for this zone obviously (almost none for the plot, though).
I’m so sorry Lynn but I cannot help your game situation. I am just AMAZED to be reminded of this game. It was a favorite of mine that I’d forgotten. With the newest crop of games, I’d almost forgotten what a real kickass game was. Thanks, and I may play it again.
That’s what I was going to say. You’re looking for a room that has a) a door south (bottom right on the screen) and b) no doors E, W or N. I typically find it in the NE region of the map along the northernmost wall (the “maze” is really easy to graph, it’s a square of square rooms. The hard setting is 8x8 IIRC) but as a general rule any section of the maze where you have some blind walls on at least two “sides” of a prospective inner room is to be investigated.
Also, as long as you don’t tell the foreman to reset the maze the room configuration will remain fixed so if you’re running low on supplies/spells you can always leave the demi-plane, rest up, then go back to give it another go and your map will still be accurate.
Another question…should I swap between fighter and mage constantly, to get fighter hit points when I level up?
And why did Annah bite me if she didn’t want me to bite her back?
Lynn,
If you swap, you split your XP between the two classes. Say you’re a level 5 fighter and decide to go mage, you become a level 1 mage. If you go up 5 levels as a mage and decide to switch to fighter, you’re where you left off that class, at level 5. The leveling system rewards depth, not breadth.
You get good bonuses at levels 7 and 12.
Hit points on the nameless one aren’t that big a deal. You regenerate and have Morte and Dak’kon to take the damage for you. I’d be much keener to receive increases in spell capabilities than hit points. Having seven chromatic orbs and four cloudkills at your disposal will help you a lot more than hit points.
“And why did Annah bite me if she didn’t want me to bite her back?”
Bitch be crazy.
Also, you know how the missile of patience seems like a worthless joke? It isn’t. Use it whenever you can until you get to its third incarnation.
What I did: level fighter to get the bonuses. Then I switched to thief. I can’t remember if there were bonuses or if I was just trying it out until I got to the mage class change person. Then straight mage from there on out.
Is missile of patience level based upon your level or number of uses? Upgraded MoP would be better if it didn’t rely on you clickclickclickclicking to use it.
Actually, considering her heritage and upbringing, I think she’s sane. Twisted, but sane. And damned touchy about that tail. Of course, Myron was my favorite NPC in Fallout 2. Not because he was useful, but because I generally play a female with high intelligence and charisma, and it’s fun to watch him trip over his tongue. Pity that my character keeps telling him to keep his distance.
I used that Cloudkill pipe on big group of thugs in the tenement of thugs. LOTS of fun.
What do you wish the Fallout2 had allowed instead of these restrictions?
I’m not sure what I’d have wanted. Some special episode, or special dialogue. Maybe inspire Myron to create a new drug just for me. After all, that’s what he DOES.
I’m pretty sure the Nameless gets fighter HPs regardless of the class he’s in - but don’t quote me on that, it’s been ages since my last run through. I do know that past a certain point (lvl 10 ? 15 ? 20 ?) he only gets +1 no matter the class.
Besides, why would you care ? If there’s anyone whom you don’t care dying in the middle of every big fight, it’s the Nameless :p.
Annah is a complicated little thing

It’s based on level. Quoth Sorcerers.net:
By level 10-11, you also get multiple missiles per “shot”. You still get to clickclickclick though. But that’s also what makes it such a weapon of mass destruction at the higher levels ! ~15 double or triple hits at 2d8 per is nothing to sneeze at.
How strange. Maybe electric damage is harder to resist?
It’s the opposite - elemental damage is easy to resist, or at least there are spells & items to resist/mitigate it ; but force damage (what they called “magic” back in 2nd ed) is tougher to avoid.
I’m guessing some programmer goofed and switched the values around ? That, or shit just be weird for weirdness’ sake.
If TNO is taking a second class, and levels up in the second class, but still hasn’t reached the level he’s in the first class, he only gets +1 hit points, and no character points. When I managed to get his mage level above his fighter level, then he only got mage HPs. And for my first try, I didn’t save scum, and I got just +1 HP each time I leveled up, even in the first class. So now I save scum for everyone.
And I care because I don’t like dying. Also because it’s a habit…like thinking “I’m gonna need a Phoenix Down here pretty soon”. Yeah, I probably play too much Final Fantasy.
Don’t need to save scum, “BG1/PS:T Max HP on Level Up by Grog” from Planescape: Torment Mods - Sorcerer's Place
not tested on modern systems etc but doubt that would be an issue. As I said, not cheating unless scumming is cheating in the user’s opinion.
