# I finally did it.  I said Goodbye to AOL

After almost 7 years with AOL, it took only about 5 minutes to sever all ties. It’s not that they didn’t try to keep me, because believe me they did. They tried to hit me up with offers of virus protection and 3 months free, not to mention trying to give me tickets for the guilt trip over being such a loyal member for as long as I was. But I knew before I picked up the phone to call them that no matter what they said, and no matter what incentive they might try to use, I was going to discontinue my service with them.

I didn’t realize how difficult it would be saying goodbye to the very first screen name I ever used. Today there is a little, teeny, tiny, and empty space in my heart where AOL used to be, ☹ but I’m guessing after another hour or so, I’ll be over it completely.

You used to be able to turn your AOL screenname into an AIM screenname, but I don’t remember how. Someone else here has got to know.

Yeah, right.

Keep a close eye on your credit card statements/checking account. For a very long time.

**Lord Ashtar** , I think that I am content to not use the screenname anymore. Believe it or not, I sort of feel liberated to be rid of it. I’m sure I’ll be fine without it. Besides, I have a new fondness for **Swanky Glue** , which matches me much better now than **ItsyBitsyFurryPurryKittyWitty** , which was my old AOL screenname.
