I find parts of Africa cultural practices annoying

Seriously?

New York, LA and Missouri are all part of the same country (have been since California was conquered from Mexico), all speak the same language, have similar levels of social and economic development, and have more or less the same culture. Liberians and Zimbabweans don’t. (Well, I suppose the elite of both countries speaks English, so I’ll give you that).

For that matter, I’d bet that New York, LA and Missouri have more in common culturally than Northern and Southern Nigeria. Let alone two countries at opposite ends of Africa.

If you were one an international cruise and the only other Americans were from LA, New York and Missouri, you guys would have plenty to talk about.

If a Liberian and Zimbabwean were the only Africans on the cruise, they really wouldn’t have much to talk about, except maybe African headline news. Otherwise they aren’t going to feel any more similar than an accountant from Tennessee feels to a Bolivian potato farmer. There is almost nothing that ties these countries together- which is why it’s bizarre to lump them together.
