WhyNot, I might not call a gun “pretty” but I might call a gun “purdy” – you don’t have such a sense of lost machismo when you utter it that way.

“I thought you said you had a Purdy shotgun?”
“Nope, I said she was purty”

For those who don’t get the joke, Purdy makes very, very, nice guns. Like £45,000 nice.
