Aw. Sorry, Walrus. Maybe he’d gotten into some sort of poison or something before you got him. At least he had a good couple of days with you and got worldwide recognition.
Oh no! I was starting to get attached to the little rodent. 
Wow, WHile the hammie was on the lam he must’ve ate a flower or plant that was toxic.
We lost a hamster this summer. Poor moonlight or lucky moonlight. Had the cages outside for a cleaning. the exercise wheels were off but the doors were closed. We got sidetracked with other chores and ended up leaving thehouse for a couople hours. We got back after dark and discovered one hamster had shoved open the door to the cage and hot footed it out of there and disappeared into the darkness of the yard. The other hamster was burrowed in his fluff sleeping. The escapee was all white, but a tenacious sturdy little guy. I was not so sorry to discover him missing as I still carry a scar from him biting me.
The kids were saddened, but when we talked about him living large in the meadow and givingn the chipmunks a run for their money they cheered up. I doubt he made it to California, and with ihis white coat and strong poluation of cats, hawks and owls around I doubt he got to see much of big wide world.
Ouch. Man, I’m sorry to hear that. He looked really sweet and fuzzy in the photos, too.
