No, I meant the steel ones. I’ve never seen one in the wild. I did have some in my collection back in the 70s.
I still find a steel penny once every few years. I probably have a dozen or so around, and had many, many more passed thru my hands when I was younger. They’re usually so blackened or corroded it takes a moment to realize what they are.
I get a buffalo nickel once in a long while, but none of them ever have a legible date. An old coin without a date is no fun at all.
The one I mentioned above was found in a roll of wheats that I bought. Not that uncommon, but I swear the thing is probably in MS64 condition.
I’m pretty sure that I got all of mine from dealers. Probably one at a time, as my allowance was pretty low.
