_It just stands to reason. How can you enjoy being well-fed, prosperous, healthy, and surrounded by loved ones unless you know that somewhere out there somebody else is hungry, poor, sick, and alone? The whole point of happiness is knowing you’ve got it and other people don’t, right?_ It sometimes seems like there are people who really think this way. They see life as a competition and want to know how they’re doing in comparison to everyone else. The idea of everyone being equally happy - even if they’re included in that general happiness - strikes them as wrong. They’d willingly give up a third of their happiness as long as everyone else had to give up two thirds. Because then everyone, including themselves, would be less happy - but they’d be “winning”. So I too hope that, in the future, all is well, everyone eats free, no one must work, and all just sit around feeling love for one another. I don’t think it’s going to happen but it would be great if it did. And if Communism could deliver that future, I’d become a Communist today. ---

If you look at the list of authors and quotations for the Chipotle bags, there doesn’t seem to be much of a theme except for these two things: 1. Hey, let’s get quotations from the sort of authors that we can mention casually in conversation in order to show what hip intellectuals we are, because there’s nothing more fun than faking it as an intellectual at a party. 2. The quotations are actually pretty trivial and boring, but as long as we attribute them to famous authors we can berate anyone who objects to them as being too stupid to understand them. ---

Are you bothering to read the posts in this thread and the quotations from the bags? They’re not communists. They’re a bunch of hipsters pretending to be major intellectuals. That one quotation doesn’t describe communism any more than it describes any other currently possible economic system. Except maybe in some far future society where robots do all the work, how could we all not work? ---

1. It’s not a communist slogan. Communism says “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”. IOW, every one who can work, works to the best of their ability 2. In a world where no one works, no one eats. Just the act of gathering food is work. Even in the case of robots, someone has to build them, repair them, program them, etc. The math works out like this: 1+2 = Stupid. ---
