Hey! You’re about an hour from the Minnesota State Fair! It’s ten times any other fair.
Yes, TX is bigger, but MN is so educational and diverse! You (and the kid) will learn a lot, see dogs doing water tricks and pet alpacas and get cheap chocolate shakes and buckets of cookies and anything made out of honey (the ice cream is tasty).

Oh, and any food you can think of … on a stick!

It starts a week from today in St. Paul, and runs through the 2nd (Labor Day).
We missed it last year, and have been depressed ever since… one week until emotional equilibrium returns.

Alas, I will be traveling to Indiana that weekend to take the boy down to see my parents and his sister. Then the next weekend is a long awaited reunion with the rest of the family. I get to see my husband soon!

On the friends front - I met with a woman and her son who is about my son’s age for a play date. This woman is visually impaired and I spent a lot of time keeping track of her kid as well as mine. We didn’t have a lot to talk about and my son remained clingy, not giving us much time to talk anyway. We ended up talking about football. It was boring to me, even though the boy had fun. I don’t know if I want to do it again. But maybe I should give her another chance.

It’s good to hear Slalaxan about your building up new acquaintance there - I’m happy for your family all right.

## Small bump to complain about living alone

The light in the living room is flickering. Not dim flickering but straight up strobing. I have no idea what happened. I am not handy at all and the light fixture (which belongs to the apartment and not to me) has a vintage globe on it that I don’t want to risk damaging, not to mention the fact that I don’t have a step ladder to reach it. So I just don’t have light in the living room right now until the landlord sends the maintenance guy by to fix it. Unless I want to cause someone to have a seizure.

If my husband were here, he would have fixed this by now. He would have known right away what was going on. I miss him

I’d suggest Zelda Rubinstein to fix your flickering light but she’s deceased now…or is she???

> Congratulations on the new job, I hope it makes a huge difference to your life after the misery of the last job. Are there local clubs or playgroups that you could take your toddler to? Would your work be amenable to some flexible working arrangements to allow you to establish some kind of support/friendship network? Are there people at work who have similar age kids you could socialist with?

As I understand it, the OP has only been at this new location a month or so? It takes time to meet people and make friends. The good news is that the particular situation isn’t open ended as the rest of her family will join her once the transaction on the other house has concluded.

If the OP had a particularly miserable experience with her last job, it is entirely possible that she may be experiencing some lingering stress from that. It’s been my experience (having had several miserable job experiences) that even if the new job is going well, certain things might trigger feelings of anxiety or dread if they are perceived as being similar to experiences on the prior job. Almost like PTSD (or may actually BE PTSD, depending on severity).

Any combination of new job, recent move, raising a toddler by yourself, and having the rest of your family some distance away is inherently stressful.
