Happy Festivus. I’ll get the pole from the crawl space.
Last night I had an infected cyst lanced. Of course it is in the middle of my forehead. And the Lidocaine didn’t really work. So now I have a giant gauze bandage plastered across my brow and where he lanced it still f’in hurts. I’m going to say I had a run-in with a reindeer.
I wish I could go to Sonny’s for ribs…

I’ve managed to shower and get dressed, plus I’ve got a load of jeans in the washer. Once I toss them in the dryer, I’ll run to Food Lion and CVS. And I’m thinking I’ll do quiche for supper. That’ll give me breakfast for a week or so. Yum!
The drizzling has stopped but fog has set in. I need something to brighten my day…

Went to the cafe and had a coffee, and picked up a few unhealthy food items at the drugstore.
I’ll be doing laundry and working on crafts and music arrangements today. Maybe wrapping my prezzies too.

My dryer had been invaded! Or at least the vent line had been.
I tossed in a load of jeans and turned it on. Before I could walk the 20-ish feet to the stairs, it started making one gawd-awful scary noise. Thank goodness it started right away - I wouldn’t have heard it from upstairs and I was about to head out to the store.
\*\*FCD \*\*has several compressed air lines in the basement, so I dragged one over and crammed it into the area under the lint filter. All kinds of lint and grass blew back at me. I did it again, then set the dryer on air only and turned it back on - I heard an odd sound, then it operated normally. So I checked outside - under the vent, there was a pile of lint and grass. I’m thinking a mouse took up residence while I was using my clothes lines.
The dryer seems to be working fine now, but I’m not leaving till it’s done. Then this weekend, \*\*FCD \*\*and I will have to pull the dryer out and check the vent line. We also need to put some sort of grate on the end to keep mousies out. Good thing he’s got a long weekend coming up! 😃
Never a dull moment…

It’s a wet rainy 36 degrees outside, supposed to get up into the 40s. Tomorrow is supposed to get up to 57, down right balmy.
**Alien** not a roommate, another uninvited guest. It’s been a bit since I’ve seen signs of the squatters so I was surprised when the clump of dog hair was cold and squishy.
Not much to do today except the usual BS. Irk and straightening up, unpack a few more boxes. I may go out, I have to buy a bottle of wine or Baileys for my niece and I need another surge protector.
I still don’t know what I am doing for xmas. I thought the plans were made but everything is still up in the air.
My mother wants me to come xmas eve and spend the night. I don’t want to go at all, too much drama in the family right now and I don’t care to be around it.

All of the places I get groceries from deal in boxed beef, and don’t cut their own meat. VWife needs a beef soup bone for Christmas Day, and I’m not finding any.

Anyone else, what would be a good substitution? I pondered beef ribs for a bit in place of the soup bone. I’d also consider using an oxtail, but they’re as prevalent as the soup bone.

I made it to my appointment and back without causin’ too much major storm apocalypse, just some rain and thunder. Dang! I’m losin’ my touch! 😃
**BBBobbio** I’m sure beef ribs would be an adequate sub for beef bone if’n you can’t find one. I’ve used ‘em to make beef stock. This sounds like what VWife might be doin’. I just assume that. What do I know. Speakin’ of oxtails, I happen to really like 'em. Especially when my friend does oxtails in French onion soup. YUM!
Speakin’ of food, I am, indeed, a little bit hongry. Thus, time to feed da bear!

They might, or Giant (dunno - I don’t shop there) I’ve seen packaged soup bones, but for the life of me, I can’t recall where or when. Sorry.
Back from erranding. Food Lion and CVS were crazy crowded! It’s midday Tuesday - what’s the deal??
I had lunch at Bad Chinese, and I figured out why it’s bad - the food is mostly tepid, and it gets downright cold while on the plate. Oh well, it was cheap and fast, so there’s that.

Happy (?) Festivus, one and all!
My grievance (not directed at a family member):
One of my closest friends thinks I have the hots for her husband. We’ve all known each other 20+ years. I’ve known him longer than she has, and I’ve NEVER been attracted to him. He’s smart, and funny, but he looks like a frickin’ ferret. And he’s kind of annoying. Just…no.
Today I broke down and wrote her an e-mail, saying I’d heard about her concerns second-hand and wanted to assure her I wasn’t interested, etc., etc. Super nice, super casual.
Bracing myself for an angry response anyway. :dubious:
I think that’s the only serious grievance I have right now, but the holidays aren’t over yet. 😃
Oh! Wait. Another grievance.
Screw you, Netflix, for taking Scrubs out of your catalog starting January 5th! I’m not done watching it all yet. :mad:

You may have lucked out. It turned into kind of a rant. Now that I’ve vented, even if nobody saw it, I don’t feel the need to go on and on. I suspect, post rant, that the big family argument was one of the reasons cleaning the stove top got mentioned here at all.
Shorter version -
I also use Comet in the tub. Are you old enough to remember Comet commercials with “wait a minute” in them? And the replying sneer from Ajax commercials about “that ‘wait a minute’ greeeen clenser”?
Well, I usually sprinkle the Comet when the tub is nicely wet from a shower, then I let it sit. I don’t know if it helps or if it’s only a placebo effect, but I like to think that it did some work that I didn’t have to do.
The stove top was a crusted mess and has been for awhile. I’m not the cooking and stove cleaning person in the house, but everyone else was gone and one of the other two kitchen-sharers had put in the effort to knock down the first layer. I had three days, so I stripped it down and worked on it off and on, letting various things soak for hours.
End result: for the really bad stuff, nothing works like high-strength oven cleaner. All the warnings for using that apply. If you get it on a burner’s internal metal bits, they will corrode and it can block the little, clicky auto-starter. Best to block any metal from the spray.
There is an Easy-Off stove top version that looks like liquid Comet, and probably pretty much is. [Rant deleted] It will get lighter stuff. I tried it after about six rounds of the oven cleaner. [Yes, I followed precautions. No, it’s not toxic, it’s only corrosive. No I don’t need to wear a mask, just spray it at arm’s length, don’t inhale, then leave the room and close the door. Shit, I said I wouldn’t rant.] It works, but it doesn’t work as well as the oven cleaner. If you have an enamel stove top and can keep it out of exposed metal bits, oven cleaner is the quickest way to go.
Wiping it off after it’s done working will take more paper towels than you’d think. And apparently you can’t buy a toothbrush with hard bristles any more because it’s bad for your gums. Pity. Even with the oven cleaner, scrubbing was necessary. [Yes, this is shorter and less ranty than the one the hamsters ate. I’m tempted to see if there’s something foamy and caustic that I could spray on the tub. I promise I’ll follow all precautions.]
