Well, day 1 of my job search went pretty well. I’m going to be calling it quits for the day pretty soon.
This is exhausting.
I still need to call unemployment. I called them back in '04 when I got layed off by EDS, and I recall they told me I had to wait till my severence ran out before I could file (there’s Massachusetts for ya). So, that’s on my adgenda for tomorrow.

I suggest you expedite you exit from the IT machine. Find something safer, more predictable, better pay…Ever been on a commercial fishing boat?

I’m trying to get out of IT. I’ve got a plan and everything. But I need to finish my degree, and I’ve got 7 courses left. That puts me in line at graduation next May (Class of '08). Other than that, I’ve got no options - I can’t make this kind of money doing anything else. Stupid IT.
Just wanted to chime with condolences and good vibes. Hopefully, you’re job hunt will be short and you will find a more lucrative position. 
This and similar threads are making me think about a reality TV show where some of those crab fishermen from The Deadliest Catch are put in an IT office in Boston. Which is more likely to happen:
(a) Crab fisherman runs back to Alaska in tears;
(b) Nerd at the next desk calls crab fisherman stupid fuckin’ moron and threatens to take his lunch money. Crab fishermen cuts nerd up for bait and gets back to work.
