“I often organize felines”? It’s like herding cats!

4th floor apartment, no stairs. I go to the apartment number given to me by the machine, knock on the door, and tell the dude why I am there…and he tells me I have the wrong address. I look at the number on the door which matches the apt. number given to me by the machine, and I ask him if this is that address, and he says “Yes it is, but you have the wrong address” and shuts the door in my face.
No stairs? Was there an elevator or did you levitate?
I meant “no elevator”-sorry.
Nearwildheaven:
Congratulations on your hiring by the census.
It’s like a very patriotic job to serve your country in such a way.
^^ Maybe you haven’t made it as far as post #88.
I didn’t make it through training, unfortunately. Like I said, I kept hitting roadblocks in training and took it as a sign that I wasn’t supposed to do it. It was quite a disappointment but if something isn’t supposed to happen, it isn’t supposed to happen.
Like I told my supervisor when I turned in my kit, how long do you beat your head against a wall before you realize all it’s going to do is give you a headache?

I had a friend who worked for the Office of National Statistics over here,
Over where? We don’t know all the things you know.
Over here = UK
I miss the old board, where your location was shown instead of having to hunt for it.
Question: How does one access the messages on the iPhone’s splash screen (with the Census medallion)?
Details: Every morning when I’ve signed up for work I get a 6 am message telling me my starting time — but the message vanishes if I touch the screen in some wrong way. After that, I can only see the messages by accident. They will pop up at various times during my shift, but I haven’t figured how to intentionally make them appear.
Help?
I hope someone pops in to tell you soon. I could have walked you through but I handed in my phone last week after a bad time with multiple addresses.
NotherYinzer: There’s a place in one of the other softward areas (maybe Work Availability) where it gives my starting time for the present day, but it doesn’t show the other special messages that arrive on the splash screen.
Here in St. Louis, they’ve begun accepting overtime up to 8 hrs per week – with perfunctory permission from your supervisor. And they’ve started asking if people would like to work in one of 8 nearby states after the local workload slows down – around the end of September. You get mileage, the local payrate of your destination, and a per diem. They reimburse your lodging bill (up to $95/day, possibly more in some locales) – but you have to pay it from your own pocket first.
Check the “Hub” application and see if any of the messages you’re looking for are in there. Typically, they’ll send out Census related messages through the Hub. SMS messages, of course, can be found in the Message App. The message telling you that you have X number of cases is from FDC I think.
Those are my guesses…
Well, crap! Now I wish I hadn’t quit. The weather was really doing bad things to my health, though. I got lots of hours and miles as a documents runner in the beginning so I’ll have to be satisfied with that.
They gave me an address with multiple units that turned out to be slips at a large marina…and they told me to go ahead just in case some were living on their boats. The upshot?
22 sailboats
13 motor boats
10 empty slips
4 dinghies
2 skidoos
No residences…and a large part of the day filling out individual reports on every one of them.

Worth it to reapply? I suspect they’d be glad to have you back.
I got two calls today asking me to come back. I just might. I like the paycheck.
I’m turning in my equipment tomorrow. The whole process never really clicked with me. It’s a shame because we’re getting top rate in the Bay Area.
You all need to do the right thing for you.
Baal, I wonder where those people are going to be sent. Sounds like it’s most likely going to be in very rural areas that don’t have their own enumerators.
I am in Portland, and they are asking for volunteers to drive to California and Nevada.
