Alsebian … I think I’m going to use that in casual conversation. I’ve posted this before, but there’s an Xian shoe/shirt store not far from here called “Bottoms and Tops”. Oy. And they pass out (and, evidently, sell) Chick Tracts. When I asked for one (sign said free tract with every purchase, and I figured why not see if it’ll go up in flames when I touch it?) because “my friends think they’re amusing”, the woman behind the register looked like I’d spat on her dog and wanted to be assured that it wasn’t true. I made up something about “well, they like the drawings in them”. Bad cover-up, I know, but she was evidently so ensconsed in the glory of Chick tracts that she gave us one that actually isn’t too horrible. Tiny Shoes or something. Typical Chick drawing, typical Chick anti-logic. Woman promised us it’d have us in tears by the end. Erm… ---

You seem to believe that Weygand is a fake name and that the movie is actually refering to De Gaulle. It isn’t so. Weygand is a real character. He was a retired general at the beginning of WWII. After the crushing french defeat, he was called back to replace the french chief of staff Gamelin, just in time to state that there was nothing left to do and to refuse to order a military capitulation, demanding that instead the government sign an armistice (in order to avoid that the surrounded french armies would be taken as PoW…they were nonetheless). After the armistice, he was sent to north-Africa as administrator general of the french colonies. He was called back later at the request of the german authorities and then deported. His status as delegate general of the Vichy government explains why he could have signed letters of transit in the movie, something the General De Gaulle, siding with the British and refugied in London could hardly have done at the time. Why do the folks associated with Chick Tracts and … ugh … Fred Phelps think that homosexuality is the worst sin that could possibly be committed? They say it is “wrong” because the Bible says it is but if I’m not mistaken I believe the Bible does mention _other_ things that are wrong to do. Things like murder. I believe the Bible says “Thou Shalt Not Kill” - If I remember correctly. [hijack] Kind of reminds me of “Star Trek” The Original Series. The federation had outlawed the death penalty for all crimes … except for … travelling to the planet Talos 4 !!! Yes, that sure sounds like a damned good reason to start loading up the lethal injection machine. I mean ypu could blow up a couple of solar systems, incite inter-galactic riots, spread plagues across multi-dimensions but by gosh as long as you did _not_ visit Talos 4, then you could rest assured you will not get the death penalty.[/hijack] ---

Because folks like Paul Cameron (not to mention heaps, hills and mountains of ignorance) have told them that homosexuality and pedophilia are in any way related. You have to remember, though, that Chick is the sort who thinks that your haircut has something to do with where you go after you die, and Phelps would put a Pharisee to shame with his legalistic self. ---

No, their _interpretation_ is that the Bible says it’s wrong. Funny, there’s no mention of “gay” or “homosexual” in Genesis 19:4, 19:11, or anywhere else for that matter. There isn’t even anything about men laying with other men.[sup]•[/sup] And what’s with Chick including the Canaanites? Does he equate human sacrifices with homosexuality? It doesn’t add up. Perhaps Chick, Phelps, et al., have a “special” bible? 🙂 [sup]•[/sup]Deut. 22:5 does say crossdressing is an abomination. Not all gays are crossdressers, of course, and Deut. 22 goes on to say things like new homes must have a battlement and not to wear garments made of mixed fibers. ---
