I saw [Creed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creed_(film)) yesterday. I really liked it. I think I’d say it was the third best Rocky movie, but a _very close_ third best (ie almost equal with _Rocky II_). Of course, I tend to think of _Rocky-Rocky II_ as being one four hour movie in two parts, so maybe I should count _Creed_ as the second best Rocky movie.

Written and directed by [Ryan Coogler](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Coogler), writer-director of _Fruitvale Station_, teaming up again with _Fruitvale Station_ lead actor Michael B. Jordan, this was the first sign that the movie had the potential to be really good. Michael B. Jordan was excellent, definitely a star on the rise. I don’t think he’ll be tainted by the disastrous _Fantastic Four_, not when he’s got this movie as his follow up.

Stallone was great as well. He’s lived in that character for so long, if he’s going to put Rocky Balboa on screen you’re going to recognize him as being the guy you’ve known for 40 years.

I think I have only two complaints. I would have liked to see more from Phylicia Rashād (now the third actress to play Creed’s wife). My other complaint: Creed’s rise came too quickly. Still, at least they didn’t… which would have been going too far. Since they didn’t… they at least kept it ground a little bit more realistically.

Anyone else see it?
If you’re even remotely interested, and _especially_ if you’re a Rocky fan, I recommend it.

…Creed does not win the big fight at the end.
He goes the distance and the judges call it in a split decision, just like the first (and sixth) Rocky movie- 1 for the underdog and 2 for the champ.

It’s getting some good press. Even though he’s made and starred in mostly B movies Stallone is a good actor. He didn’t write and direct this, but I have to assume his Rocky movies were a huge influence on the picture. I’ll see it eventually. Rocky was a masterpiece of film, the sequels far less, but if you’re going to make a sequel Rocky III was the way to do it. This one may spawn it’s own sequels, though I expect even lesser quality than the Rocky repeats.

It’s not as good as Rocky because Rocky always wins, even when he has to fight the big Russian. And he wins vs Mr. T and Apollo Creed so it is obvious that he is a better fighter. That is what makes his movies good. The first one they played it off like he lost but we all know he won because of what the sequals showed us. And anyway, he beat the black guys and the russian guy so what is not to like? He is an all American hero.
