I think I’d let him post-bail under those circumstances. He still very well may have raped the maid, but its pretty clear he wasn’t making a mad flight for France to elude justice afterwords. And with a monitoring bracelet and no passports, I seriously doubt he’s going anywhere.

I’d agree only if they used one of those “Running Man” collars, so if he gets more than 50 ft from his apartment his head explodes. He’s got enough money that he probably could get back to France secretly if he tried hard enough, and France won’t extradite their own citizens. If the trial looks like it’s going bad for him, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made a run for it.

Having worked with well over 1,000 criminals, I have to say that I have yet to come across a criminal mastermind. I just don’t buy the argument, “it would be so stupid for him to commit this crime, how could he possibly think he could get away with it.” Criminals do really REALLY stupid things. The only ones I have ever seen that truly try to, “cover their tracks,” in a smart way are on CSI and Law&Order.
I will reserve judgment until after a trial. But the, “it’s just so stupid as to be implausible,” argument carries no water for me.
