I Guess this Rich Fuckin' Banker [Dominique Strauss-Kahn] is Too Cheap to Hire a Hooker

Dunno, apparently Continental-y excuses seem a tad bit slower showing up than Strawmen do.

What I’m wondering is why you would think such a thing would happen. Is this commentary on the Roman Polanski affair? If so, maybe you should go back and relearn about this affair, and figure out that it was actually quite complicated.

Actually, I’m convinced that many date rapists don’t know/realize/comprehend that she doesn’t want it - too many years of hearing (and often, seeing with their own eyes) that “a woman’s ‘no’ means ‘maybe’, a ‘maybe’ means ‘yes’” (I’ve heard some queens express the same shit with regards to other queens - le sigh!); also, often the victim’s “no” was a “yes with conditions” and they changed their mind when the conditions weren’t met (mind you, conditions such as “assuming that your room doesn’t look like a dumpster” don’t normally get explicited - because it shouldn’t be needed!).

{sarcasm}I wish we Americans were more sophisticated about sex, like the French.{/sarcasm}

He drugged and ass-raped a thirteen-year-old girl and then fled the country when it looked like he’d be imprisoned for it. Many in France and Hollywood think it’s no big deal and that the U.S. is a big mean bully trying to pick on a very talented (and now, thanks to his many years as a fugitive, old and distinguished) auteur.

If I’ve missed any of the subtle complexity, feel free to fill in the gaps.

I’m gobsmacked over the extent to which many posters have rushed to judgement based on a few lines in a news story. Well, no, I’m not, really. Par for the course, innit?

Personally, the circumstances of the case are so bizarre that I think I’ll wait to hear a bit more detail before uttering inanities like this:

I don’t know you, Koxinga, but you’re really coming off as a bit of a bigot and an asshole here.

In 2007, reporter Tristane Banon disclosed that [BEEP . . . BEEP ], whom she described as a “chimpanzee in heat” (at 0:09), attempted to rape her at the start of a 2002 interview. Video (skip to 1:10): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x758vb_temoignage-exclusif-la-troisieme-af_news#from=embed

Transcript of the relevant part: http://www.agoravox.fr/tribune-libre/article/temoignage-exclusif-la-troisieme-46125

Loose translation of the relevant part of the transcript (I can’t follow the spoken words):

I arrived at the address, I parked, I went up. The apartment was empty, completely empty, with a VCR, a television, a bed at the bottom, very beautiful, good taste, a man’s good taste. The sun was shining on the patio, and he gently shut the door. I put the on tape right away to record. He wanted me to hold his hand while he answered, because he said “I can not do if you do not hold my hand,” and then he put his hand on my arm, and then he went a little further, so I immediately stopped …

When I arrived there, I was wearing a black turtleneck. Perhaps a black turtleneck trips guys up. But it had to stop. It got very bad. We ended up fighting. It was very, very violent, since I told him very clearly … [interruption by another dinner guest] … no, no we fought on the ground, it wasn’t just a couple of slaps. I kicked his feet, he undid my bra, he tried to open my jeans … It ended very badly, but what struck me … [cut]. Well I ended up leaving. He immediately sent me a text message asking with a provocative air, "Have I frightened you? "

I told him when we were fighting, I told him the word “rape” to scare him, but he was not scared. It was apparent that he was accustomed to this. After that he didn’t stop sending me text messages saying "Have I frightened you? "

As an Argentinian, I can say that finding out that the head of the IMF tried to rape someone doesn’t surprise me, at all.

I’ve left my celphone in hotel rooms when I left, despite never having raped any of the staff. I’m not sure the celphone really means anything other then he forgot it.

Though in the article in the OP, it just says celphone, they don’t mention “other items”. If he left a bunch of other stuff when he left, I agree that seems more like he fled in a hurry.

Just seems weird a 62 year-old guy can get dressed from taking his shower, get up and out of a hotel, check out in the lobby (and I assume if he hadn’t checked out, the article would said so, since that seems like better evidence of leaving in a hurry then leaving a celphone) and be out in what according to the cops quoted in the article, was “within moments”.

What signs are those? He got pulled off an airplane due to her accusations. They have to be pretty damn credible to take on the rich and powerful.

Perhaps the sanctimonious can expalin to me why a rapist doesn’t DESERVE to understand what it means to be raped? I fully understand why any decent person should never facilitate it or not punish the latest rape but deserving it is a different concept. In life we cannot administer true justice because of what that would make us but it strikes me that true justice is still the reception of what we doll out. That doesn’t negate the grace and goodness of mercy in any way but a simple acknowledgement of what one deserves.

Because it looks a lot like a honey trap. As for “They have to be pretty damn credible to take on the rich and powerful”, it works both ways. Taking on the rich and powerful can be good career opportunity.
I’m surprised at the speed at which all this took place.

Why don’t you have your reading comprehension checked, because you are coming off like a moron here.

I never approved of rape. THIS GUY WILL NEVER BE RAPED. HE WILL NEVER BE IN PRISON.

Do you understand the frustration of someone who is tired of the rich and powerful being able to commit whatever heinous acts they please and get away with it?

In fact, if we suddenly were under some tribal eye for an eye law, and this guy WAS ACTUALLY IN REAL LIFE sentenced to being raped by Bubba Joe, I would immediately begin another thread on this board about how disgusted I am with our new justice system.

Do you understand the difference between reality and the hypothetical? Do you understand anything at all?

So, the speed it took place was due to the maid’s connections ? The police would not go after this guy without serious proof. They know better.
False accusations are not a good career move.
I am not saying he is guilty. I do not know.

Preach it, brother!

I don’t know. It seems to me what they’d need is a complaint.

I just watched this, but my French is really bad. Can you tell me what I was looking at? It seemed to be some sort of televised dinner party.

In any case, it looks a lot like this guy is guilty.

What’s funny is that I think that the odds of him being guilty are great, yet I dont agree with the way you characterize what happened.
A maid says she was raped, in very short time, the head of the IMF is apprehended, as he was about to fly away (I do find it strange that apparently his plane was just about to fly away, yet he is accused of trying to flee the hotel in a hurry. If he hadnt been fleeing in a hurry, how was he supposed to get on time on a plane that was scheduled to leave pretty early? Was that a private jet? There were other passengers, so it doesnt seem very likely).

That’s quick action (though “unfortunately” not quick enough to arrest the guy at the hotel while he was checking out).

As for cops not rushing in an arrest based on flimsy evidence and false accusations later easily disproved, yeah, never happened.

It’s on that show that I heard for the first time of DSK’s apparently frequent behaviour. It’s a show which films some society like dinner party. Very good show, sadly doesnt exist anymore. And what she says is summed up here:

93, Faubourg Saint-Honoré was a current-affairs talk show at which the guests dined together during their discussion.

But what kind of dress was Argentina wearing?

People on this board sure post about rape rape a lot.

Jesus Fuck Christ.

This thread is less than a day old and the guy has already been convicted on the grounds that he’s been accused of rape before. Oh, and exonerated, on the grounds that he’s Jewish or that he’s being framed by the NYPD or the French government.

Oh, and we already know that he won’t go to prison no matter what because he’s An Important Banker.

Can we get some goddamn perspective and maybe chill the fuck out until we actually find out what happened?
