# I guess utube lost...

I was fascinated a while back by the saga of poor [utube.com](http://utube.com), manufacturers of tubes and rollform equipment who were getting tons of misdirected traffic that was meant for [youtube.com](http://youtube.com). At one point IIRC they sued youtube because all the misdirected traffic was killing their server. They also didn’t like the fact that an infinite amount of chuckleheads would find the email links on the page and email them ignorant rants asking “WTF? Where’s the videoz? You guyz suck!”

Out of idle curiosity I checked [utube.com](http://utube.com) today and found it is mostly a placeholder page (with some slightly NSFW ads on it) that now links to [utubeonline.com](http://utubeonline.com). A search of [utubeonline.com](http://utubeonline.com) for “youtube” returns nothing… no sad stories of server failures and rude emails, no news results for the pending lawsuit. I don’t know how the case was settled but it would appear [utube.com](http://utube.com) lost.

Sounds like they really could have cashed in on advertisement but missed the chance.
