I had a "garage" sale on Friday

My neighbor had a garage sale once. I had a buch of porn DVDs in a cigar box I wanted to sell, so I told him, if he would sell it for me, I’d split the profit.

Turns out that was the first thing to go out of all his crap!

Sold out on day one!

A friend and I had a garage sale once and the weird stuff went really fast. The more practical things just sat there and we ended up giving them to a charity.

By weird stuff I mean grubby (really grubby) stuffed animals and those swirly painted heavy ceramic ash trays and vases. Pure ugliness sold fastest.

We had one last year and made over $1,000 the first day. Didn’t bother with a second day. Neener neener.

I made a bunch on mine but I was selling electronics. Household items and clothes etc are rarely worth the trouble.

Is there a college nearby? Have them at the beginning of August when Kids Need Furniture.

I wonder if they gave the lenses to the Lions Club or some similar organization. That’s what was done with my grandmother’s glasses when she died.

Chefguy, what were you selling and how many people went in on it with you?

BTW, I did put signs out on two busy intersections.

Gotta say, that’s one thing I’ve NEVER seen at a garage sale! Craigslist bans these ads, and I’ve reported a few people for advertising it.

We did it alone. But we had a lot of African cloth, baskets, masks, etc. Also working appliances, old record albums, some power tools, a 23" LCD TV. One guy spent $500 right off, then went home to get his van to cart it all away. He came over because he wanted my articulated ladder for his business. Even without that big sale, this stuff would have sold, as the things left over were getting a lot of interest. We bought poster board and put up signs on the main routes through the 'hood, did a garage sale ad on Craigslist (with photos), etc. The stuff that didn’t sell went to Goodwill for the tax deduction.
