Call me paranoid, but I Y2K proofed my computer using the checkup program at [cnet.com](http://cnet.com)… I didn’t have time to do the one upstairs though, so I set the clock back… it thinks it’s December 31st, poor dear. Ah well. ---

I am on a Mac right now. There are no Y2K problems with Macs! (_neener neener neener…_) Well, I shouldn’t say that, I also have a PC, it’s only a year old, but in the shop. I will see when I get it back if it has any Y2K problems. The shop wasn’t sure. (It’s in the shop for a non-Y2K problem.) ---

Not a thing. I downloaded the free MSWINDOWS fix and POOF! In like 30 seconds it had everything under control. I HAD downloaded two other ‘fixes’ and one took several minutes, chuckled away on my system, popped up a window telling me what a great job it had done and what it had found that needed fixing, and what it fixed and that for $19.00 I could get PART 2 to correct what it had not!!! So I downloaded another ‘fix’ which did the same, plus it popped open a list of things that still needed fixing and, for $10.00 I could install another program that would fix the rest!!! Nice of them not to mention those little quarks in the pre-download information!! I uninstalled them all, found the MSFIX, dumped it in and PRESTO - CHANGEO - no major windows, no 'well we fixed this and this but for the small fee of … we’ll fix the rest, just ‘installation complete click HERE to view changes.’ Loved it and a pox on all of those Y2K scammers out there trying to fleece us out of our hard won bucks. ---

**Funeefarmer** : hey, I thought I was the only one who putzed around and didn’t upgrade from Win95 before the “Big Event”. Same thing here; computer was fine but the dog _still_ insisted on the “sniff and widdle” routine anyway. Finally got around to reading yesterday’s paper, w/ some very sheepish “nuthin happened” coverage. Chortled about the Second Coming Disaster Media Watch in the middle east. Sounds like it was mostly disgruntled 4th-string reporters assigned to the “what if…” millenial lunatic fringe. Just reinforces my belief that the world needs more places like this to fight ignorance, no matter how idiocyncratically we go about it. Veb ---

I so wanted it to crash so I could talk myself into buying a new one, but NO it had to survive without even a burp. Maybe I’ll accidently hit it with a sledge-hammer… Nah ---

My old P-120 with whatever version of Win95 they were pushing out in March of 1996 went through the change just fine with no updating from me. Explorer still lists files by dates, things boots up, everything you could want from an obsolete computer and more. We have a Y2K problem here…timesheet program won’t work. You try to log in, you get an invalid date error… Back to paper timesheets until the 20th!!! (Which is when we’re supposedly going to have a NEW program that will fix all of this.) * * * “But I can cry until I laugh or laugh until I cry. Near as I know, there were no failures of our products, at least none reported. However, our tech support case tracking system isn’t reporting ANY calls in the past three days, which I know isn’t true. I think the elapsed-time portion of the text searching mechanism isn’t working. ---

They still have a small free software application y2k checker at [www.download.com,](http://www.download.com,) click on the y2k link to get it for the pc. Checks all your applications when you are online.
