Not notably well so far, but hope springs eternal. He seems to be under the impression this board is filled with ‘Conservatives’, or at least lily liver’ed Conservative apologists. 😛 Hilarious. -XT ---

I’d never really considered that, the personal responsibility if my incisive intelligence and crystalline logic so utterly shatters some tighty-righty’s worldview that…bereft, lost and despairing, they fling themselves off a building to spatter hamburger jello all over the sidewalk… Groovy. ---

I’ve predicted the fall of the GOP and Conservatism before and even the election of President Obama from as far back as 2005. I was telling Democrats after they got STOMPED in the 2004 election not to fret because the GOP was going to take a nasty fall - and guess what? They did, starting in 2005 and climaxing in 2006. When history has its say it’s not you that winds up laughing. ---

What you seem to not be aware of is that Conservatives thought the Republicans lost there way during the time you mention (and earlier) and were fine with them falling on their faces. I know I was, because only then would real conservatism be allowed to be the counterpoint to liberalism. Obama and majorities in both houses has been a godsend in that regard. And now that people see what the Dems really want to do, there has been a strong conservative resurgence, one which will be reflected come November. So, if you don’t like the way things are now, you’re going to hate where things will be after November. ---

I think the social conservatives are outnumbering the fiscal conservatives (once again). And I think that although the Dems will lose ground in November, you may find yourself surprised at the direction the independent voter may take when confronted with a far-right social conservative choice. Targeting Hispanic people to pull over and see if they’re citizens? There goes the hispanic voters. Talk about godsends. Oh, yeah. I’m just hoping you guys have the courage to really cut Government the way you’ve been screaming about doing it. ---

Personally, I think that whatever gains the Republicans manage will be more out of anger or whatever from the voters wrt the Democrats than it will be because Conservatism is on the upsurge in the US (that and structural changes that will get the 'Pubs some seats just from that alone). Same thing that Liberals thought in 2006, i.e. that the country was swinging left. The reality, IMHO, is that people were sick of the Republicans in 2006 and simply voted the Republicans out, instead of voting Democrats in, as it were. And Obama is mostly a moderate…a left leaning moderate, to be sure, but still a moderate. -XT ---

There is always a healthy amount of anger towards a sitting administration, particularly when there is a recession and higher than normal unemployment. When a relatively tiny proportion of voters are actually “swing” voters, all it would take is for a small percentage of voters who usually vote Democrat to stay home and sit on their hands. ---
