Whatever guys. OP had the right to choose his battles. Racists are everywhere. If I called out every time a racist said something racist, would constantly get into fights. Not that getting into fights is bad, but the reason has to be worthwhile. ---

I would rather not be associated with a person like that, then worry about how he’s going to react to me. You keep saying something about how he might be in danger in an urban area with a large black population, but you are hanging out with him. So, that’s your boy and you are probably a racist, too (I mean as far as the perception goes for some people). I personally couldn’t imagine being in a situation like that and just tolerating it. To me “keeping the peace” might mean letting some innocuous comments slide and not being drawn into a fight or argument over some petty stuff, but this is different. ---
