Given the basic functional design of your average human being, it’s pretty hard to sit on anything else. Also, how can you be sure the stuff they put in your room is random? Maybe you just aren’t adept at pattern recognition? Please, though: do tell us more. At least one of us is bound to reach for a LLM as a possible resource for your vexing issues. @kaade199 - they could be giving you gifts, rather the “putting stuff” in your room. Shared housing can be complicated, especially because it is typically done at an age when a person has just left home, started college/university and has little life experience. This refers to your roomies as much as it refers to you. Be kind to your house-mates. But remember, the age-old “do a shit in their peanut butter” trick is funny only in concept. It is usually easier to move accommodation than to face legal charges. ---

When I moved into residential college, I was disappointed. I was interested in my degree subjects. The medical students were interested in their degree subjects. At dinner, my parents used to talk about interesting things that had happened at work. Including, on my mothers side, medical problems at work. So I thought, people studying poetry, or history, or even chemistry, would be talking about poetry, or history, or chemistry studies. Nope. Just gossip. Mostly bitching. Who’s making noise, not washing, has poor taste, whatever. So I sympathize. But, OP, that’s what you are doing too. Haven’t you got anything else to bring to the table? Job, studies, the use of AI, management or school? ---

Welcome to the straight dope message board! We are an old-fashioned message board, with some old-fashioned posting habits. You’ll get more and more-enthusiast engagement if you follow them. We expect posters to be genuine. Cutesy posts about troublesome roommates that turn out to be cats is not genuine; it’s deliberately misleading. You presumably meant to be fun and provoke curiousity, but you may have also annoyed some posters.Your same post but recast as as “My cats are driving me nutz!” would have been totally genuine and most welcome. It’s not like Reddit, where yesterdays story disappears, and you need to create a new story to continue a converation. So your follow-up post (this thread) where you admit your other thread is talking about your cats is totally wonderful content. But it belongs as a post in your original thread. It is not a suitable fresh thread on its own. Of course, if you read a bit, you’ll notice that we’re not all that serious here. Lots of silly conversations about silly things. But we are serious about saying what you mean, meaning what you say, and we put a high value on being nice to other posters. (Our fundamental rule is “don’t be a jerk”. 😉 ) We also like citations in the more serious threads. (Heck, sometimes even in the silly ones.) I’m going to merge this with your other thread, since that’s our style. Check out thread games for some pure silliness, or Cafe Society to chat about movies, food, and books. You should probably read Great Debates for a while before plunging in, because that’s one of the forums people care most about the style of. On the other extreme, most things are fair game in the BBQ pit. I hope you enjoy the site. ---

Ha! Cats are the roommates. I can sympathize; I’m a cat lover. I lost my last one about four years ago, and I’m still finding cat toys everywhere. I assume that cat toys are what they are leaving in your room? I pick the toys up and get rid of them, but there’s always more to find, it seems. ---

Heh, we have four cats now. The one I like the most brings bouncy balls to my bed and leaves them for me to do a princess and the pea act with. It’s not random, he loves playing with them, and he loves playing in my bed. It’s deliberate. ---
