But about the 200th time I heard it I caught on that it really MEANT what it said and people reacted to it like it totally serious. From that point it became a thorn in my side and an earworm boring into my brain. There is so much Christmas music out there in all styles - why ride a few chosen horses to death year after year after year? ---

In my chorus’ upcoming holiday concert, we’re doing some really great songs . . . but we’re also doing that fucking shoe song. I suspect the kid took the money and ran out of the store to buy drugs. ---

Sad Christmas songs. You mean, like “I Came Upon a Roadkill Deer”? Or “O, Little Town of Hackensack”? 😃 I’ve never heard the shoe song, thank God. It sounds pretty awful, if the music is anything like those silly lyrics. Good 20th Century Christmas songs has to include: _Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas_. Especially sung by Judy Garland, as in the movie. ---

I _think_ the original “intent” may have been to show there are those less fortunate than some of us at Christmas-Time. “Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons”, for example.😛 Or maybe that some of us are spending Christmas without a significant other. Well, okay-fine, but I don’t think we need it beaten into our skulls ad infinitum. Confession: In my (much) younger days I didn’t mind hearing/playing these tunes, so maybe it’s cynicism? Here’s something I used to like to do which y’all may find kinda strange: On Christmas morning, when there’s hardly any traffic, I like to walk the downtown square and look into the windows and just enjoy the peace of no cars, booming music, or (hopefully) no sirens. It’s like it’s just me and it’s a very “tranquil” time. Thanks Q ---

I hate the shoe song. I do love, OTOH, “Please come home for Christmas.” That is easily my favorite song. I like “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” but I can never find the perfect version of that song. I like Nick Lachey’s voice, but not Jessica’s. I like Zooey Deshanel’s voice in that version she did for Elf, but not the guy’s. ---

… Holy **Night** … …and the reason I am emphasizing those words is because whoever sings it, sings it just like that. Don’t know who it is but it sounds like the guy’s going for a “blues flavor” which also ruins THIS one. Quasi ETA: He also sings “Rown’ yaown vugin mutha and chile” if that helps to identify him?
