Can’t stand “Carol of the Bells” at all, it’s like the soundtrack to a pre-Victorian slasher film. and it’s almost never sung well, gets all shrill and desperate on the high notes. Similar problem with “Christmas Time is here Again” from a Charlie Brown Christmas, it’s just more mopey than stabby is all. ---

Just to hijack, for some reason, the latest missing-to-dead child story in the news really bothers me even more than most- BECAUSE she was pimped out by her mother. So last night I’m saying to Mom- “I’m really conflicted here- the Christian in me thinks the mom & the killer should be quickly publically executed. But part of me wants to know if we can get Saddam Hussein’s woodchipper for this.” Back to thread- I hate the blatantly manipulative ones, like “Christmas Shoes” and “Blue Christmas” (Sorry, Elvis). I like the genuine heartfelt ones like 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and “I’ll Be Home…” Now, “Pretty Paper” straddles the line, tho Roy Orbison always wins me over. ---

What always bugs me are the sad songs that nobody ever listens to the lyrics, and so don’t realize that they’re sad. Off the top of my head, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “We Need a Little Christmas” fall into this category, but I could probably dig up more when I get home and look at my iTunes. The one that drives me to a murderous rage, though, is “We’re simply having a wonderful Christmas time”. It’s a really annoying song, but also manages to be an extreme earworm, so you can’t forget it, either. ---
