Thank you Monty for your help. You didn’t have to be a jerk about it though. Nice “Christian” attitude you have there.
Krispy: Are you referring to the one started by the moron who has accused me of driving into a drivethru pulling my pud? Since I have never done such a thing, and doubt that I ever will, my “dickishness” as you call it does not exist. At least not in response to that incident.
Adam: Nice “ignorant” attitude you have there. It took me all of two minutes to find that link above. Just for fun, try to actually learn something instead of relying solely on what you’ve been told in the past. Many times on this board you’ve been shown how useless such a reliance is.
You didnt seriously expect not to be called on that, did you? do you wish to imply that inhabitants of third world countries shouldnt have an opinion?
:read: its my ball and Im going home if I cant win.
Jesus H. Crist with an Arc welder, who do you think you are?? SDMB Bad Boy, my arse.
take your head out of your arse.

[Fullblown Sarcasm Mode ON]
Krispy, I stand corrected. Your eloquent and enlightening response has converted me. Soccer does suck! And so does cricket! What the hell was I thinking all these years?
Can I come over tonight and watch a bunch of grown men wearing a lot of plastic protection (huh-huh… no not THAT plastic protection, you’re so funny!) run for 10 yards, then fall down, run again, fall down, et cetera ad infinitum? We’ll call it Football, and tell everyone on the planet (especially those fucking losers in third world countries like England!) that it is the best sport ever! Everything else sucks! REALLY!
“Oh say can you see…”

I’m talking about the thread in which every single person that has posted thinks that you were/are a jerk…(something I’ve known about you for quite some time)
Krispy Original – The original SDMB bad boy
Actually, baseball and basketball are in the same category as football in being the best male team sports.
I concede that soccer might be the best female team sport although volleyball might be a close second.
Krispy Original – The original SDMB bad boy
Hey punk, you’d hardly fucking know about “SDMB bad boy” since you only crawled into here a couple months ago.
…and please learn how to swear with American cuss words. “Arse” doesn’t impress me.
Krispy Original – The original SDMB bad boy
It must be hell putting up with the likes of us, eh Kripsy? We are so far beneath you . . . our intellectual powers so puny . . . our sensibilities so twisted . . . our world view so wrong.
How do you do it, Kripsy?
Jesus, you really think the sun shines out of your **ARSE[\b] dont you? Why should I change the way I speak to suit you? since I only crawled in here in July of last year, I’m sorry if I dont know your fucking life story, but then again, if I had to hear it I’d probably end up suffocating on the amount of bullshit you talk.
Krispy, go fuck yourself.

Bobby O–after reading some of Krispy’s posts, I’m tempted to start liking soccer myself to disassociate my views from his!
My tone wasn’t directly because of your post–many many (and even manny) soccer fans will say that if we don’t like soccer it’s because of something wrong with us.
My primary objection to soccer is not the low scoring, but the low number of attempts at scoring. Soccer players are very finely conditioned athletes, no question.
Car racers, on the other hand, aren’t athletes at all. If I switch shoes with Pele, he still beats me in soccer. If I switch skates with Gretzky, he still beats me in hockey. If Jeff Gordon has to drive my Corsica, I beat him by several dozen laps!

Oh, well. We can always make more killbots.
What league are you watching???
Monty: It’s all about the attitude. You already knew the info, so I knew you could produce it in no time flat. And you insulted my intelligence when you said this:
I just see all kinds of negative attitudes coming from you, and that really disturbs me. And after reading that thread in MPSIMS, where you tore into that person for no reason at all…it makes me wonder what kind of person you really are. I mean, KO thinks your a jerk. That should tell you something. (No offense taken KO? You are our resident bad boy, afterall)
Adam…knowing he doesn’t belong in the Pit.
“Life is hard…but God is good”
Hell, KO thinks I’m a jerk too. Yet there are little pit threads devoted to me.
I wouldn’t take THAT as a measurement, Adam. KO dislikes people who disagree, or so it seems.

Maybe there should be. Sure, this thread was a rant. Pure opinion and personal preference.
Then Coldfire shows up and starts launching personal attacks.
Monty the jerk then takes the cue and jumps in followed some time later by the pathetic wanna-be, John Larigan.
Thanks a lot for the hijack Coldfire. Out of the 20 or so people that had managed to keep this thread at the level of a rant, you had to go and initiate personal attacks. jerk
Krispy Original – The original SDMB bad boy
Alrighty then. This is from my first post in this thread:
Then, Krispy says, a few posts later (in response to someone other than me):
I think we can all see the gaping holes in the logic concerning these statements. Think about it, Krispy. If you talk about a sport, you talk about something other people value. In this case, the most valued sport in the world, if ‘number of active players’ is used as a measurement (and why shouldn’t it be?).
This means you have to be careful and respectful about it, like I was about American Football in the first quote. You don’t get it? Fine, but at least have the curtousy to respect it.
You did not do so, as is obvious from the quote above. In this light, my response, a mere
can only be interpreted as an accurate disciption of the poster at hand. A personal attack? Most certainly not. Believe me, you would have noticed.
I’m afraid this is a desciption of your personality, Krispy.

Coldfire,
You just don’t get it. I don’t have to respect soccer. Here in the US we are free to choose what sports we respect or disrespect.
Maybe on a Dutch or Irish message board posters are required to respect certain sports. Maybe you should find one and hang out there (and take Larrigan with you).
I’m pretty sure though that on any message board calling a specific person an ignorant piece of shit qualifies as a personal attack.
Krispy Original – The original SDMB bad boy
Let me say that I am a little chagrined to have responded to such an obvious troll. What an immature jerk Krisy Original seems to be. I just didn’t know.
But back to the salient points of the conversation.
Bucky:
I would say that soccer players are more than finely conditioned atheletes. They are also very skilled, tactically aware and possessing atheltic traits (balance, power, speed, vision and reflexes) that few other sports’ participants possess. I think that basketball players come close as a whole, and certain position players in football do too, but as far as a team of 11, soccer has it all in every player.
Also, as I stated before, I am not a fan of auto racing, but I think your Pele/Jeff Gordon comparison is a little off. If Jeff and Bucky had the same equipment, Jeff would kick your ass. If Pele and Bucky had the same equipment Pele would kick your ass. The sport includes the equipment.
As for “low attempts at at scoring.” In football, almost every time a play starts, there is an attempt at scoring, right? Except for maybe spiking the ball or short yardage dives for 1st down yardage, or a punt, and even then you could argue that these plays are an attempt to at least get into a position to score. In soccer, it is the same, maybe even more direct. Every touch of the ball is directed toward scoring or stopping a score. In fact, the most desperate clears or sliding tackles in the penalty box or diving saves are the only “plays” that are not directly involved with getting into scoring position, and they are pretty exciting themselves. I love to watch because every pass might be the one that splits the defense brilliantly to provide a streaking player with a half second chance of taking his shot and beating the keeper.
Not to bore you, but two examples. In the Super Bowl this year, the Rams got their game winning touchdown on an unexpected, long pass to beat the d. In the World Cup in 98, deBoer struck a long ball from deep in his own half, just over the defender, into the stride of Bergkamp who calmly trapped it and struck it home.
Next, for the Super bowl this year, I was standing two inches away from the TV for the last two plays, practically jumping up and down, waiting to see if the Titans would score. Similarly, I was standing, pacing and jumping up and down for the last 10 minutes of the Champions League final in May 99 while Man U scored, not once, but twice in stoppage time to win. And Bayern Munich hit the crossbar and post in the same period.
It’s always about scoring, if you know what to watch for. Take another look.
deBoer and Bergkamp play for Holland, by the way. The game was against Argentina, the World Cup quarter finals.
Thanks, Bobby O, for bringing that Bergkamp goal to memory… one of the most brilliant displays of talent and control I ever saw… even if I eliminate the patriot factor
Krispy, showing respect for differing opinions and preferences has absolutely nothing to do with nationality. It has, however, everything to do with a decent upbringing and, hence, a good set of morals. I defy you to point out where I disrespected your or anyone elses opion. In this thread, and for fucks sake, on the entire board.
The difference between you and me is, besides apparent intelligence, openmindedness. Of which I have plenty, and you have none - just in case you misunderstood that one too.
To top it off, me calling you an ignorant piece of shit is a fact that is nothing compared to your gross disrespect toward differing opinions and differing cultures (Third World countries, remember?).
