It’s one of those web-savvy terms I was confused about until I looked it up. I don’t mind it, now. At least it saves space. Th’ word, if not the blogs themselves.

I hate the word IT (pronounced ‘eye - tee’) I hate it because everyone says it but alot of people don’t know what it means, and then knowing what it means doesn’t really help you much. I mean, there’s some company whose name I can’t recall whose slogan is “We get IT done.” Does that make much sense to you? That sentence just doesn’t sit right with me - “We get information technology done”, it just doesn’t seem like something you “do.” And where the hell did this word come from anyway (I’m using the word ‘word’ lightly here folks)? I know I never heard it until 2 or 3 years ago at the most and I’ve been into computers for a decade. Something about the term just really irks me. Maybe it’s because it’s most often used on those sleazy “Get Cisco/MCSD/Net+…etc certified in 17 minutes even if you can’t read and you’re drooling all over yourself!” commercials.
Whew. I’ve been wanting to get that out for awhile, sorry. Now with that said…I actually like most geek-terms, including ‘blog’ 😃

I think “diurnal” is an even better word for diary or journal. 'Cause it sounds kinda dirty. _snigger_

“Diurnal” already is a word, tho. According to my dictionary, it means basically the opposite of ‘nocturnal’.
And yeah, the word blog sucks…it sounds like something that comes out of your nose.

I agree. Although I gave up the fight nearly ten years ago, I initially went so far as to ignore directives from management to use that abbreviation in memoes.
I would point out (in an exasperating, pedantic manner) that while Information Systems actually conveyed our task of constructing _systems_ in which to transmit, collect, analyze, and display _information_, my mechanical pencil and ballpoint pen were each examples of information _technology_.

I hate that word too. I won’t even dignify it by typing it. The laziness and stupidity of not going to the trouble to say “web log” (which is lazy in itself) i truly frightening.

I understand your aversion to that “word.”
I, too prefer web journal. It was only recently that I stumbled upon this internet feature.
And, strangely… I find myself attracted to them more and more. Now I check certain “blogs” every day. And it’s not just one or two. Instead I’m going from blog to blog, and checking new blogs.
It’s a disease! Help me!!!

on LiveJournal you can just add people to your “friends list” and then go to your friends page and read everyone’s entries all in one place. It makes it much easier.
(example, here is my friends page:

And I don’t call it a “web journal” it’s just a “journal”… doesn’t matter where I keep it, it’s still my journal.

You need a [bigger dictionary.](http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=diurnal&r=67)🙂_Diurnal_ also an old word for something that happens daily, thus a daily newspaper, or a diary or journal (because you make one entry per day).
I guess if you made one entry per night you could call it a _nocturnal._ 😉
