I had the same problem once…drove me crazy until I realized that I had my computer set up to not accept any cookies. So when I would submit a post after logging in, the board would not know that I had logged in when it tried to post. Or some such thing. All I know is that I reset my acceptance of cookies, and _voila!_ no further problems. ---

“Just as a pointless digression, why do some posters seem to think that putting a “k” in “America” is a clever device to gain rhetorical points?” I thought it was to gain sympathy, you know like the backwards “N” on a child’s lemonade sign. Either that or the mini-series really reached them. ---

Over at ATMB Arnold “Noodles” Winkleried has [this to say about the log out problem.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=105272) If you log in at the log in page after you post, then hit back then hit post from the quick reply box the last poster may sometimes show as Unregistered on the forum page but not on the actual post. Until this happened to me, I thought there was an actual poster named Unregistered. Does that make any sense at all? ---

I know I recently reprimanded someone for using a dictionary definition, but here it goes anyway… cull Pronunciation Key (kl) tr.v. culled, cull·ing, culls To pick out from others; select. To gather; collect. To remove rejected members or parts from (a herd, for example). n. Something picked out from others, especially something rejected because of inferior quality. The last one sounds right.
