# I hate this time of year

My dad died on June 9 six years ago, so the barrage of Father’s Day advertisements is not exactly something that makes me happy. The Dodgers hyping up the father/son “Play Catch on the Field After the Game” on Sunday (Father’s Day) wasn’t exactly easy or fun to watch.

I love you, Dad.

I hear you. My parents and grandparents are all dead, and I work in retail. I am 25 and look younger, so a lot of customers ask me what I am getting my parents for Mother’s day/Father’s day/Christmas/etc. After awhile it starts getting to me in a big way. Of course I am always polite with the person who asks, although it’s a tough question to answer honestly without making them feel like a heel.

Hats off to you for being civil. At work today a woman told me, “Happy Father’s Day to you if you are one, or have a father.” I realized that the polite thing to do would be to thank her, but instead said, “Well…actually, no to both. But thanks!”
