The ultimate luxury. A garage with a heater.

It might only be 40 degrees F in there. But at least the car will start. Compared to leaving the car in -20 F outside the garage.
I have a Natural gas space heater in my garage/workshop. So I can work with power tools safely without a big jacket.

I leave the heater on with a low flame anytime it’s colder than 30 F outside.

> To show you my sense of perspective, I thought this was going to be about your new Tesla or some such. I’ll be the first to admit that there are A LOT of things that I don’t understand, but chief among them is why anyone would live anywhere that requires a “-” in front of the temperature more often than, say, once in a generation. Especially Fahrenheit.

I would have no idea what this was about if I didn’t recently see someone “plugging in” to try and get his jeep warmed up enough to start in a blog I sometimes watch from Alaska. Even having seen that, I still thought this was about some hippy’s electric car for a bit.

Actually Iceland is significantly warmer than Greenland, a language usage which doesn’t seem to make any sense at first glance:

When I lived in Alaska, it was not unusual to see a supermatket parking lot full of cars left running while their owners shopped. When it is well below zero, no one wants to take the chance of not getting it started again, and the small expenditure of gas is worthwhile insurance. The fear of having one’s vehicle stolen just wasn’t an issue.
